As Red Ribbon week comes to a close this year, (October 23 to 31, 2018) let us reflect on what Red Ribbon week means. Red Ribbon week began in 1985 in response to the kidnapping and murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena while working undercover in Guadalajara, Mexico. After the murder, people in Agent Camarena's hometown of Calexico, California wore red ribbons in his honor. The red ribbon became their symbol for prevention in order to reduce the demand of illegal drugs. We must never forget! #enriquecamarena #DEA #redribbonweek2018 #saynotodrugs

Today wrapped up our Red Ribbon Week presentation. The kids at Southside Prep Magnet School here in Evergreen got to see K9 Officer Baker along with Deputy Brown and Orion. Remember not to follow the pac, take the “Smart” path! Say no to drugs!

What are the drugs you think our youth are facing today? Deputy Brown and K9 Officer Baker along with Orion did a drug presentation at Thurgood Marshall Middle School. Sadly, the age many first try drugs is so very young. #Prevention #Awareness #KnowledgeIsPower #SayNoToDrugs

Today the deputies visited Lyeffion Jr High School as well as Evergreen Elementary. Continuing our Red Ribbon Week sharing information about the importance of kids knowing to stay away from drugs and to just say no. Orion done a great job along with Deputy Baker (K9 Officer), Deputy Dees, Deputy Drakeford and Deputy Brown. Evergreen Police Dept joined us as well at the Evergreen Elementary School. I think it’s safe to say a good time was had by all....

Sparta Academy as well as Conecuh County Jr High students learned about the dangers of illegal drugs during Red Ribbon Week presentations today. The kids got a special surprise...meeting Orion and watching him in action today. Just say no to drugs! #Redribbonweek2018 #drugfree

Deputies along with K9 Orion are getting ready for Red Ribbon Week next week. The entire community can come together during Red Ribbon Week to teach kids to develop good habits early in life to help them achieve future success.

Happy Boss Day to Sheriff Brock. Thank you for all you do for us here at the Sheriffs Office. Enjoy your red velvet cake!

On behalf of Sheriff Brock, we are excited to announce that Randal Brown received his diplomas yesterday morning after graduating from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Academy. The ceremony was held in the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center. Deputy Brown completed the 14-week training. He started his shift today. When citizens see Deputy Brown around town be sure to congratulate him on a great accomplishment.

On September 3rd, we will celebrate Labor Day. Our nation’s strength, freedom, well-being and prosperity is impossible without the dedication and tireless efforts of the American worker. Labor Day is also traditionally the end of summer and one last time to enjoy the activities that make summer great. Unfortunately, many of those activities entail greater risks and can lead to tragedy. We can prevent that from happening by staying focused on safety. Everyone should understand the risks of drinking and driving. Remember during the holiday weekend that we have many soldiers deployed on federal active duty away from their loves ones and doing their part to keep us all safe. Please keep all of them, and their families, in your thoughts and prayers.

According to Conecuh County Sheriff Randy Brock, over this past weekend the Conecuh County K9 unit conducted a traffic stop on a passenger bus on its way to Georgia along I-65 near Evergreen, Alabama. During the course of the traffic stop, deputies along with the 17th Judicial Drug Task Force agents located around 5 lbs of heroin and around 16 lbs of cocaine on the bus. Sheriff Brock states this is just one of a few that our office has been involved with. Some weeks ago our office also seized around 5 lbs of crystal meth inside the trunk of a vehicle after a K9 alert along I65. This is an ongoing investigation so no names can be released at this time. However, one arrest has been made. The suspect has been charged with trafficking cocaine and heroin and is being held on a $500,000 bond at this time. As soon as we can update more information on this story, we will update you all.

On this Fourth of July holiday we remember those who fought for our independence, honor our present heroic military members, and wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday!

Another job well done by Deputy McGraw, Sheriff Randy Brock, Deputy Dees, K9 Officer Baker, Officer Brown and K9 Orion. Two kilos of crystal meth was recovered last Thursday. Thanks guys for continuing to serve the citizens of Conecuh County.

Everyone have a Happy and safe Memorial Day and may we all remember the sacrifices that was given for our freedom.
