On behalf of myself Sheriff Cunningham a.k.a. "Dragonfly Jones" and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office I would like to thank each of you for a great Halloween Spooktacular. Goose bumps ran down my arm as I witnessed the number of kids and parents coming out to support this annual event. Event organizers estimated a combined total of over 5,000 people in attendance. Organizing an event of this magnitude requires a lot of collaboration, planning, and preparation. My heart is heavy when I look at the staff of the Sheriff’s Office, most of them volunteer during a time they can be at home with their families to support us as we give back to the community. Thank you to everyone that volunteered to help in anyway, e.g. working the doors, assisting with parking, line monitors, etc. all to keep things running smoothly. To Randy Stevenson and the staff of the Garrett Coliseum, I say thank you for all you do for the community. People often ask me why we do this, the answer is simple, the community needs free, safe programs and activities for kids, especially on Halloween. This is evident by the 5,000 in attendance at this year’s event. We asked for help and the business leaders, churches, sororities, fraternities, and neighborhoods answered the call. Thank you, Montgomery, if witnessing how the community showed up and showed out for our kids on Halloween night doesn’t fill your eyes with tears, I don’t know what will. I would like to recognize the following vendors that responded to our request for help with this event. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
