At approximately 1:15 pm today E-911 received a call from Air2 Electrical Construction Company operating East of McDougal reporting a helicopter crash. Upon arriving at the scene Emergency Medical Services and First Responders discovered the pilot of the aircraft to be deceased. The Clay County Coroner's Office recovered the body and it has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine cause of death. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will be arriving tomorrow for further investigation. Sheriff Miller has nothing more to report at this time. The Clay County Sheriff's Department would like to extend our condolences to the family of the pilot and prayers to all those involved.

Update: Sheriff Terry Miller reports that the suspect that fled on foot near the Arnold Addition was not apprehended! The Sheriff’s Department along with Corning PD, Arkansas State Police, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Officers exhausted all efforts to apprehend the suspect. Citizens are urged to call the Clay County Sheriff’s Office if they see anyone wondering around the area acting strangely or if anyone has any knowledge on the whereabouts of the suspect, you can dial 870-598-2270!

Sheriff Terry Miller reports: There have been new phone scams circulating stating people have warrants out for their arrest in attempts to gain personal information on the person such as credit card information, social security number, and money. Sheriff Miller advises that if there is an issue regarding warrants the Sheriff's Dept will speak to you directly about the issue.

Sheriff Terry Miller reports: On Saturday, June 16th at 9:18pm The Clay County Sheriff’s Office received calls of a train hitting a vehicle at the railroad crossing on County Road 346 north of Piggott. Sheriff’s Deputies along with Piggott Police Department and Arkansas State Police responded to the scene. There were no injuries caused by the crash. The vehicle that was parked on the tracks was later reported stolen. Sheriff Miller adds that the incident is still under investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Dept.

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller reports: Sheriff Miller is requesting assistance from the public in locating a Mrs. Sharon Childress of La Mirada, California. Mrs. Childress was last seen around 9:00am June 11, 2018 at the Black River Bridge on Highway 62 in Corning. Mrs. Childress is a 75 year old female with Dementia, last seen wearing a blue and white striped blouse, blue capri pants, black tennis shoes, and brown purse. The Clay County Sheriff's Department is now accepting applications for full-time and part-time dispatchers. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, be able to work nights and weekends. Applicants need to have a strong work ethic, a clear criminal background, and be able to pass a drug urinalysis test. Applications can be submitted via Facebook, or pick up and drop off a paper application at the Clay County Sheriff's Department, located at 268 S 2nd Avenue in Piggott.

Attention residents of the City of Corning. The City of Corning is under a boil water advisory.

Clay County Sheriff's Department is taking applications for the positions of Part-time Dispatcher and Full time and part-time Jailer positions. Applicants must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants need to be able to handle multitasking of duties -both physically and mentally and be able to pass State requirements.
