The Shafter Police Department is proud to introduce the Shafter Police Department Honor Guard. The newly created Honor Guard will make their first appearance at the Shafter Lions Club Christmas Parade this Friday, December 1st. The Chief authorized the use of the yellow and black patch that was in service during the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. The use of the historical patch is in homage to the previous generations of Shafter Police Officers who proudly served the residents of the City of Shafter.

Friday, November 10th, marked the 242nd birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. The Kern County Veterans Service Department hosted a birthday celebration complete with cake cutting. Shafter Police Department Chief Zimmermann and Officer Hayes are both former Marines, and proudly represented the Department. Thank you to Mark Duffel for the photographs. Veterans Day was also celebrated over the weekend. The Shafter Police Department is proud to have many officers who have served in all branches of the military including the US Army, US Air Force, and the US Coast Guard. Thank you to all who have served our great country, today and every day.

Time flies when you're having fun! Today we celebrated Chief Zimmermann's one year anniversary with the Shafter Police Department!!! Congratulations on making it through your first year with us, and we look forward to many more with you.

Officer Garcia visited Tin Cup Coffee yesterday, and was surprised when one of the employees handed her this card. A little girl, who was with her mother in the drive-thru, had given it to the employee to give to Officer Garcia. She said she was supposed to give it to someone special, and wanted Officer Garcia to have it. They drove away before Officer Garcia could get out to thank them. On behalf of Officer Garcia, and all of us at the Shafter Police Department, thank you. This was a super sweet surprise and made her day. :)

The Shafter Police Department had some special visitors today. Dereck Contreras and Damian Lopez brought donuts for all of our officers this morning, and the residents of Carrington of Shafter brought us sandwiches, sodas and all the fixings for lunch this afternoon! We appreciate the opportunity to serve this great community, and are grateful from the support we receive from our citizens, today and every day. Thank you from all of us at the Shafter Police Department.

Happy Friday! We want to say a huge thank you to Dereck Contreras, who made our Friday even better by bringing us donuts! Thank you Dereck, and thank you to all of Shafter's citizens for supporting the Shafter Police Department. :)

Street sealing will be taking place on various streets in the City during the month of August. Please drive with caution, obey all traffic signals and signs. Thank you.

Animal Control Officer Blake visited the Shafter Youth Center today. He showed the class different dog catching techniques and tools used. The class had a great question and answer session, had a tour of one of our animal control vehicles, and took a wonderful class photo at the end. Thank you Shafter Youth Center for having us visit!

Captain Bell was out on Bike Patrol during the Shafter Fireworks Show, and stopped to take selfies with some of the attendees. Our citizens are what make our city great, and we love meeting all of you. Thank you to all who attended the Shafter Fireworks Show, and we hope to see you next year!

Today we attended the 2017 Law Enforcement & Prosecutor Recognition Luncheon hosted by M.A.D.D. of Southern California. Each year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving hosts a luncheon recognizing officers from all agencies within Kern County for their service, and for their efforts in curbing drunk driving. The Shafter Police Department would like to recognize Officer Erwin and Officer Puente, who were presented with their 23152 pins and Deuce Awards today. Both Erwin and Puente made 12 DUI arrests each for the year 2016. Congratulations to both officers and thank you for your efforts, and for keeping the streets of Shafter safer for all of us.
