**UPDATE - ARREST MADE** Back in February we posted about a series of vehicle burglaries that had been occurring in the area of Clark Park. After we obtained the suspect image, we were able to link our crimes with several other similar crimes that were occurring at parks all over Orange County. Recently, one of our officers took a vehicle burglary report that was consistent with the Clark Park vehicle burglaries. Our officer was able to identify the suspect in that case as Justin HANEY. Further investigation determined that HANEY was the suspect involved in many of our vehicle burglaries in the Clark Park area, as well as several other burglaries in Orange County. Our detectives worked with the Irvine Police Department and on May 9, HANEY and an accomplice were taken into custody in Irvine after committing crimes in Newport Beach and Irvine. Our auto crimes detective just filed multiple cases against HANEY in Buena Park and we expect there to be several other cases filed by other cities. Great job done by all involved!

Armed Commercial Robbery Investigation On Monday 5/14/18 at about 12:20 AM, officers from the Buena Park Police Department responded to the report of an armed commercial robbery at the AMPM market in the 7900 block of La Palma Avenue. The suspect brandished a semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash. He fled on foot and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no reports of injuries or shots fired during the incident. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 28-35 years of age, wearing a black shirt, tan cargo pants, and a blue "LA" baseball cap. He also has a mustache and tattoos on his chin and left fingers. The same suspect is believed to have committed similar robberies in Fullerton the same night, and also South Gate the night prior. Buena Park Police Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect who is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Buena Park Police Detective Bureau at (714) 562-3855, or tips can be reported anonymously to OC Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS (855-847-6227).

A message from our Chief of Police: In an effort to be transparent, I am sharing an article with you that was in the OC Register today regarding an off-duty incident that occurred involving one of our police officers. The video of the incident clearly shows our officer drawing his gun, but not pointing it, at a subject he allegedly believed was committing a theft inside the mini-mart of a Chevron gas station in Buena Park. We were aware of this incident after it occurred and we immediately began conducting an administrative investigation into the conduct of the officer involved. The complainant also filed a formal complaint against the officer alleging misconduct and also retained an attorney. I want you to know that after I watched the video I found it to be disturbing, as I’m sure it was to you. However, because there is an ongoing personnel investigation and potential litigation pending against the city, I am unable to discuss the details of our investigation. I can definitely assure you that our investigation will be thorough and if the officer is found to be in violation of any policies and procedures, he will be held accountable. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

You booze, you lose! This driver decided to take the risk, and unfortunately for him, it didn’t go well (it never does) Fortunately for us, we got him off the roadway before he injured or killed someone. The driver said he was trying to find a hotel, so we were more then happy to provide him with one at the finest Police Department in Orange County 🍊 . This was the drivers 4th DUI arrest With all the different options out there , there is no excuse. Stay safe! #BPPD #BuenaParkPD #DUI #MADD #MothersAgainstDrunkDriving #GrayBarMotel

On April 18, 2018, Corporal Plumlee and Detective Pantoja went to St Judes to present the Breast Center with a check for $5642 from the proceeds of the Pink Patch Project sales. We met with their entire team and were so graciously received and welcomed by all of them. They would like to partner up more with us to get the word out about the PPP and the importance of examinations. This was an awesome experience and on behalf of the Buena Park Police Association we were proud to present them with this donation.

WANTED WEDNESDAY In August 2016, Malfavon became violent towards the father of her children and scratched him after attempting to hit him with a lamp stand. A warrant has been issued for that case. Malfavon is also wanted for questioning in another domestic violence incident that occurred in June 2017 but, at the time of this post, detectives have been unable to locate or contact her.

A message from our Chief of Police: Each one of us became peace officers to help and serve our communities. But due to proposed legislation in Sacramento, we’re concerned about the ability to do just that. Earlier this week, Assemblymember Shirley Weber (D-San Diego) and Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) announced they would be introducing legislation that would raise the standard for legal review, in hindsight, of an officer’s decision to use force. We are concerned about the repercussions of this change for public safety. If our officers cannot respond to life and death situations until backup arrives or are forced to employ a checklist during rapidly advancing and extraordinarily dangerous situations, ultimately everyone involved is placed at a higher risk. Regardless of any outcome, we will always be here for you, to help and to serve. Please leave your comments below and email and call these Assemblymembers to voice your opinion. Assemblymember Shirly Weber 916-319-2079 Assemblymember Kevin McCarty 916-319-2007. Thank you
