On Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., The Indio Police Department, 46-800 Jackson Street, will be participating in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative. This initiative, supervised by U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration, will be coordinating a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. This 16th national “take-back day” will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside. The Indio Police Department lobby will be open to the public to drop off their medication into a drop box and representatives from the DEA will be on hand to assist you or answer any questions regarding the National Take-Back Initiative.

October 7-9, 2016 is one that will not soon be forgotten at IPD. We were well into weekend one of the epic Desert Trip music festival when tragedy stuck midday on October 8 in Palm Springs. But then on October 9, as we mourned the loss at PSPD, one of our own was involved in a serious traffic collision that nearly took his life. Sgt. Jeff Merritt has been through several surgeries, procedures and in extensive physical therapy since that day. His life, and his families lives have forever changed. Though he has made significant strides in his healing, he is still fighting an uphill battle. Jeff, not a day goes by that we don’t think of you and say a little prayer for your strength and healing. You continue to inspire us. You are the epitome of W310STRONG. 💪💙 #MerrittStrong #W310Strong #indiopolice
