Yesterday afternoon the Erie Police Department was made aware of a threat at Erie Middle School. The police department quickly worked with school staff and the St. Vrain Valley School District to identify the students involved. At this time, there is no indication there is any risk to student safety. As a precautionary measure, the police department will be increasing security at the school for the remainder of the week. As this investigation is ongoing, the Erie Police Department will not be making any further comments.

Effective October 1, 2018, the Erie Police Department will no longer provide fingerprint services. This change is in response to Senate Bill 17-189. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will roll out the Colorado Applicant Background Services (CABS) program on September 24, 2018. Specific vendors will be appointed and trained by CBI, and will be the only places where fingerprinting services are available. The vendor services will be located throughout the State, increasing applicants’ ability to obtain fingerprints in a timely manner. Applicants will be able to schedule appointments online with the vendors and the fingerprint cards will be submitted electronically. This will allow for results to now only take hours instead of days or weeks. Read More:

The Erie Police Department wants to take a minute and remind kids, parents and motorists to be careful as the new school year begins. There are several things to keep in mind: 🛑 Parents of younger children – talk with your children and remind them they need to always cross at crosswalks and never run between parked cars into the street. 🛑 When using crosswalks, make sure the child crosses with the walk sign and/or when traffic is clear in both directions. 🛑 Motorists – drive cautiously and remember to drive at/or under the posted speed limit. The Erie Police Department will be strictly enforcing the speed limit, especially in school zones. 🛑 Motorists are also cautioned to pay attention to their surroundings. Distracted driving is dangerous, especially when combined with kids heading to/from school. We hope everyone has a great start to the new school year and stays safe!
