For the first time, the State of Colorado has proclaimed the week of November 5th - 9th as "Law Enforcement Records Personnel Week." Please join us in thanking our records personnel for their valuable service to law enforcement and the community.

Congratulations to Telluride Fire Protection District Chief John Bennett on this prestigious award. We are lucky to have him leading the TFPD.

The semi-truck that overturned earlier today on Lone Cone Rd in Norwood was carrying 42 pregnant cows that required extrication by Norwood Fire, Deputies with assistance from a number of locals. One cow was killed; the driver claimed no injuries. The road was closed for nearly 4 hours for crews to rescue cows and allow a wrecker to clear the truck from the roadway. To all who may have experienced any inconvenience, we thank you for your patience.

*CO State Patrol advising Sheriff's Office that road re-opened as of 4:30pm. Thank you for your patience. *3:40pm update: expect road to be clear around 4:30pm; will update. Deputies, Norwood Fire on scene with an overturned semi-truck carrying cattle on Lone Cone Rd in Norwood. There is complete lane blockage; expect delays, avoid the area. Driver uninjured, cattle requiring extrication.

National Wireless Emergency Alert System testing set for October 3. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message.

Down Valley Power Outage: San Miguel Power told the Sheriff's Office that they believe they've identified the source of the power outage affecting Ilium Valley/Sawpit, but they are unsure how long it will take to restore power. However, they did say they believe power will be restored some time today.

**UPDATE 10:25pm: Road now Open. Thank you for your patience. TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE: Society Drive at Lawson Hill is temporarily closed while Telluride Fire deals with smoke and ventilation issues at Alpine Lumber from a smoldering trash can. Please avoid the area. Deputies on scene advise road will be open at some point this evening.

Thank you Deputies, Search and Rescue, and Telluride EMS for Friday's 6+ hour rescue mission for a 25yr-old female who suffered a lower leg injury while hiking with a friend in the Lizard Head Wilderness.

A Red Flag Warning for severe fire weather is in effect tomorrow, 9/29/2018, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM MDT for central San Miguel County. No open burning is allowed in these areas during this time.

Fingerprinting Info CBI has implemented the Colorado Applicant Background Services (CABS) program in response to Senate Bill 17-189. This program moves fingerprinting services away from law enforcement agencies to certified vendors around the state. Fingerprinting is available on Wednesday in Telluride by appointment only. Visit our website for detailed info. We will continue to process Concealed Handgun Permits through our office.

Bull Draw Fire activity update

A Grand Junction man died Saturday afternoon while climbing Telluride's Via Ferrata in a non-trauma related incident. Multi-agency response required in remote location, treacherous terrain. Click for news release: @TellurideFPD #telluride #viaferrata

Two correctional officers were injured Saturday night by a violent inmate, and a total of seven separate arrests of heavily intoxicated subjects, all wearing Telluride Blues & Brews festival wristbands were made. Sheriff Masters is disappointed that so many people were so intoxicated leading to an unusually high number of arrests in one evening.

Deputies responded to a report of multiple shots fired near Gurley Lake and County Rd 44Z-S at approximately 8:30pm with an animal, believed to be a deer, then seen being loaded into a pickup truck (unknown make, model, color) that drove away. The kill site has been located, but the suspect(s) have not. If you have any information about this poaching incident, please contact San Miguel Sheriff's Dispatch 970-728-1911.

Via Ferrata is closed for the evening per order of the Sheriff for a Search and Rescue mission.
