Featured Employee: Zachary O’Bright worked as a 911 dispatcher for the City of New Britain for 3 years. Zach said has always wanted to work in law enforcement as an officer and he was driven to achieve that goal. His commitment to that dream became a reality in October 2017 when he was hired as a Bloomfield Police Officer. Zack attended the CT Police Officer Standards and Training Academy in Meriden, CT for 6 months. He completed a rigorous 12 week field training program (FTO) earlier this month. We would like to congratulate Officer Zachary O’Bright for his accomplishments. His dedication and hard work have gotten him to this point and will continue to allow him to advance his career. Zach is also dedicated to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and enjoys doing CrossFit. Fun fact: Zack started doing CrossFit in 2016, lost approximately 75 pounds, and has maintained his weight since then. He frequently goes on spontaneous car trips with friends (mostly to zoos). Keep an eye out for Zack and if you see him please feel free to say hello.

MISSING PERSON SHAQUOYIA HUDSON, please take a moment to share: On August 27, 2018, Shaquoyia Hudson (age 15 years old) left her home in Bloomfield, CT and has not returned. She is still believed to be in Connecticut at this time. She has friends and family in Meriden, CT and we’ve received information that she was seen in nearby communities. A silver alert has been issued for Shaquoyia as her safety may be at high risk and due to medical concerns. If you have any information regarding Shaquoyia’s whereabouts or if you see her please contact the Bloomfield Police Department at 860-242-5501 and refer to BPD case # 18-25709. Featured Employee: Detective Robert Spellman was hired as a Bloomfield Police Officer 22 years ago. He is a recognizable face to many in town as he has always been active in the community. This former DARE officer and hostage negotiator is currently working at a detective. Bob has had his hand in working on many of the police backgrounds for our current officers and is the go-to person for pistol permits. Bob has a fourth degree black belt in martial arts and is an avid bike rider. Bob is close with his family and he loves spoiling his dog, Chloe. Chloe was found roaming in Bloomfield. She was emaciated and sick. Bob heard Chloe was at risk for being put down so he and his wife, Beth, decided to adopt her. Bob will be retiring on August 31, 2018. If you see him before he retires be sure to say hi.

Here’s some insight into what it’s like when officers respond to a scene. This is Officer Hood’s body camera from the 7-31-18 fire at 378 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield. He was just across the street in the parking lot of COPACO when he was dispatched. You will see from the video that Officer Turcotte responded from closer a closer location, as he was already on scene when Officer Hood arrived.

The Bloomfield, CT Police Department would like to thank everyone for their support yesterday during the fire at 378 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield CT. Thanks to the on and off duty police officers, firefighters, and members of our community, all 4 residents and their dog were able to make it out of their home. With the support of these heroes, 2 of these people were rescued from the second story of the home. We would also like to express our gratitude to the supporting agencies and individuals who helped extinguish the fire and provide assistance to the family. This includes responding firefighters, medical personnel, civilians, and the American Red Cross. Wishing the family affected by the fire the best.

Found Dog (not for adoption, looking for its owners): This dog was recently taken into custody by our officers. It’s very friendly but is unwilling to share its personal information or emergency contact information with us. It’s being charged for interfering with our investigation. Featured employee: Valerie Hill has been working for the Town of Bloomfield for 17 years. Her career began at the Public works Department. Valerie transferred to the Records Division at the Bloomfield Police Department and has been there for the past 15 years. Valerie assists law enforcement agencies, insurance companies, the general public, and other interested parties in searching, obtaining, and processing records. Valerie is native to Bloomfield, CT and attended Bloomfield public schools from elementary school though high school. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Howard University, in Washington DC. Prior to working for Bloomfield, Valerie worked in the TV industry, in the mental health field, and in the insurance industry. Valerie enjoys traveling, reading, music, and spending time with her family.

Featured Employee: Nicholas Hood has been a certified EMT in Connecticut for 6 years. He worked as an EMT in a number of towns and cities in CT. As much as he loved working in emergency medical services, he always dreamed of being a police officer. The Bloomfield Police Department was fortunate enough to hire Nick as a police officer in October 2017. He attended a residential police academy in Meriden, CT for 6 months. After graduation, Nick began Bloomfield’s 12 week field training officer (FTO) program. We would like to congratulate Officer Nicholas Hood for successfully completing the FTO program. While his education will be ongoing, as of last week he has the freedom to work independently. Although he has dedicated a lot of this past year to work, Nick still finds free time to play video games and enjoys socializing with his friends.
