CONNECTICUT U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE CELEBRATES COMMUNITY POLICING AWARDS New Haven – The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut hosted a Community Policing Awards Ceremony this afternoon that recognized 15 law enforcement officers and community members from cities and towns across the state. “Today we honor the very best in community policing in Connecticut,” said U.S. Attorney John H. Durham. “These deserving law enforcement officers understand that community policing is an effective way to prevent crime, solve neighborhood problems and keep our cities and towns safe and secure. They know that it is critically important to engage with members of the community in positive, friendly and constructive ways, long before a call for service. My sincere congratulations to each of these award recipients. I thank them for their invaluable work, which continues to strengthen the communities they serve. The final touches on the deck of the I-95 Southbound Gold Star Bridge are coming soon! The jersey barriers have been removed and the final lane striping is being worked on over the next few days. Beginning tonight, the number of through lanes on the GSB will be reduced to two lanes from 7:00pm to 5:00am. This will continue into next week. Day and Night work will continue over the next few weeks. ESTIMATED Schedule (Subject to change – weather dependent) Striping Right / Center Lanes - 10/31-11/7/18) Striping Left Lanes – 11/8 - 11/9 Overhead Signs – 11/12 – 11/16/2018 There may be some minor impacts on some on/off ramps during stages of these final projects. While most of the more disrupting work will be occurring overnight, it may be necessary to apply certain materials during the day when warmer weather is necessary for the materials to cure.

Members of the Groton Police Department turned out in support of Master Patrol Officer Albert Martinez as he received the Officer of the Year Award from the Groton Lodge of Elks. The ceremony took place Saturday, 10/19/2018. MPO Martinez was recognized along with officers from Groton City, Ledyard, Stonington, Mashantucket Tribal Police, and the U. S. Naval Submarine Base Police Department. Well done MPO Martinez!

The Groton Town Police are proud to support the Connecticut Cancer Foundation by participating in our first No-Shave November!!! No Shave November, a campaign aimed at cancer awareness and providing funds for those affected by the disease. Groton Town Police will be teaming up with the Connecticut Cancer Foundation to support their mission. 100% of the money raised will help CT cancer patients pay their basic living expenses, like rent, mortgage, and utilities, while they go through treatment. Local businesses and the Citizens of Groton are encouraged to help with fundraising. Every dollar raised supports the efforts to fund cancer research and aid those fighting the battle. Groton police responded to a motor vehicle break-in tonight at Claude Chester Elementary during football practice. The victim’s window was smashed and her purse was taken from the front passenger seat. Please stay vigilant and contact police if you observe any suspicious activity.
