Congratulations to Sr. Cpl Susan Kline on her new promotion to Sr Cpl and the first ever recipient of the Cheswold Police Departments Chiefs Award! Cpl Kline has spent the past year working within the community and becoming one of the officers that the people feel they can talk to and confide in over things. She works hard in investigations and has a growing knowledge of completing tasks and seeing things through. In May 2017 the department was notified that a resident found a bag of firearms in their residence, after taking a report and possession of the firearms Cpl Kline took over the investigation of the firearms. After working with the ATF and DSP Firearms, Cpl. Kline was able to find out that that two of the firearms were stolen. While interviewing witnesses and potential suspects Cpl. Kline was able to zero in on a suspect and through the use of DNA she was able to secure a warrant and make an arrest of the suspect in Feb 2018. This is just one example of the tenacity that Cpl. Kline has shown in following an investigation until there is a resolution. Whenever there have been incidents that require a thorough investigation or identity of a suspect, Cpl. Kline has used her growing skills, knowledge and network of contacts to get the job done. Over the past year Cpl. Kline has been working to get her bachelor’s degree along with utilizing her own time to complete the FBI – Trilogy Classes in Leadership and receiving the Trilogy Award along with taking other classes wither online or in house to expand her knowledge and experience levels completing an average of 100 hours of training per year. When there is an opportunity for extra training or expanding her knowledge base she does not hesitate to request to attend. With the recent new hires during the past two years she has handled a bulk of the Field Training for these officers and continues to show interest in their progress after completing FTO. Cpl. Kline has also stepped up and represented the Cheswold Police Department in many areas outside of the Town including participating in the Checkpoint Strike Force Operation in Kent County and Shop w/ a Cop for the holiday season along may other acts of compassion and kindness through the year. Her compassion and community spirit shines a bright light on the Cheswold Police Dept. She looks out for the people in the community and shows a great pride in herself and the town. Sr.Cpl Kline was awarded the Chiefs Award at this evenings Town Council meeting in front of Mayor and Council, her family and members of the Cheswold Police Department.
