Sheriff Lockhart reports, On Tuesday, June 19th, 2018, at approximately 8:36 p.m., deputies were dispatched to County Road 176 regarding a subject suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon arriving at the scene, Deputies located a male subject lying in the roadway who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and began rendering aid to the victim. The Victim was transported to East Alabama Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Barry Anderson from Birmingham, Alabama. Preliminary investigation appears this was an accidental self-inflicted injury. This case is still under investigation awaiting autopsy report from the medical examiners office in Montgomery.

The speed limit in the down town area of Standing Rock area is 45. This is County Road 278 in the down town area around the historical rock area. County Road 278 is also known as Georgia 109 or Roanoke road. This road reaches from U.S. Highway 431 to the Georgia line. Please respect the residents of this community and slow down. Press Release 06/19/2018 Sheriff Sid Lockhart reports, over the past seventeen (17) days Chambers County Sheriff’s Office has arrested sixty (60) individuals executing over seventy (70) Arrest warrants. On Friday, June 15, 2018 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Sheriff Lockhart and his office initiated operation Friday Night Lights. This operation consisted of 11 deputies patrolling high crime areas. Operations such as this are utilized as a crime suppression tool. The operation stemmed from multiple complaints and reports made to Sheriff Lockhart over the past few months of offenses, such as shooting into buildings and residences, suspicious drug activity, and excessive speeding. The operation concluded Friday at midnight with deputies seizing 3 weapons, 1 vehicle, police body armor, and narcotics. Five individuals were arrested on charges that included narcotics, firearms, DUI, failure to pay, and escape from the state of Tennessee. Multiple traffic stops were conducted that resulted in 101 combined written warnings and traffic citations being issued. Sheriff Lockhart would like to encourage the citizens of Chambers County to continue to inform his office of such activity. This type of operation will continue to take place in attempt to eradicate crime from Chambers County. A medication drop box has been placed inside the Sheriff’s office in Lafayette. There is also one of these boxes inside of Lanett police department. If you have unwanted prescription medication that needs to be disposed of you can drop it off in one of the boxes at either of these two locations.
