Gadsden State's Veterans Upward Bound Banquet - Thursday, May 17

Gadsden State is celebrating Emergency Medical Services Week, May 20-26, by providing you with information about the EMS program! The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is designed for students who desire a career in pre-hospital emergency medicine. Our Goal is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, levels. The program provides the successful student with the theoretical and practical preparation to obtain entry-level positions in the Emergency Medical Services workforce. Gadsden State Community College offers three levels of EMS training and education. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs), and Paramedics are licensed medical professionals who provide emergency medical care to the sick and injured in an effort to promote health, alleviate suffering, and conserve human life. Students who enroll in the EMS program will pursue a course of study, which leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree. EMT is a one-semester course. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry examination and apply for a State of Alabama EMT license, Advanced EMT training consists of an additional semester beyond EMT. Students who complete the Advanced EMT course will be eligible to sit for the Advanced EMT National Registry examination qualifying them to apply for a State of Alabama Advanced EMT License. Paramedic is the final three semesters, which along with the required general education courses, leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree. Upon successful completion of the Paramedic program, the graduate may take the National Registry exam and apply for licensure as a Paramedic.
