The original incident occurred on January 5th, 2018 in the 400 block of N. Main at 2111 hours. 01.09.18 S – Savaughn Abbit, 23, of Texarkana, TX Mr. Abbit was arrested and charged with five counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. The original incident occurred on January 7th, 2018, in the 1400 block of S. Fulton St. at 0425 hours.

On January 11, 2018, at approximately 9:20 am, officers of the Hope Police Department received a call in reference to a Robbery that had just occurred at Terry Powell Grocery located in the 300 block of East Greenwood Street, in Hope, Arkansas. Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown black male entered the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and demanded money. The suspect left the store and ran north on North Hazel street. The suspect is described as a black male approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall and weighing about 250 lbs. He was wearing white pants, a white hoodie with gray colored striped print near the top of the hoodie. The suspect hid his face with a dark colored covering that was red at the bottom. *********IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE********** HPD is requesting the public’s vigilance and assistance in identifying a suspect in a series of recent offenses that include robbery, burglary and assaults over the past few weeks. All offenses have occurred east of N. Hazel Street within a couple of blocks of East Third Street and west of Bonner Street. We are asking all residents to take particular caution in and around these areas and call 911 if anyone suspicious is noticed. Suspect is a black male approximately 6 foot tall, slender, typically wears dark clothing and something over his face. Age is unknown. The suspect has stolen approximately $1000 over a few week period. Anyone with any possible information should contact Detective Green at 870-722-2563 or email egreen@hopearkansas.net. Officers and members of their families delivered needed clothes, books, toys, and various presents to a total of 17 kids on Christmas Eve, aging from 1 year old to 17 years old. Members of the Hope Police Department shop for Santa Cop at Wal-Mart in Hope. This program is funded entirely thru donations from the community as well as local clubs and employees of the Hope Police Department. Santa Cop is officer nominated and based off of citizen contacts throughout the year. This year, the Hope Police Department raised $340.00 through donations from their annual P.D. Rookies vs. Veterans Softball Game. Also this year, members of the department participated in a Beard Tax. For the months of October, November, and December, Officers were allowed to not shave their beards for the donation of $10.00 per month. Our beard tax totaled to $250.00.
