The Winslow Police Department is looking to partner with local volunteers to start and operate a shooting club here in Winslow. The members of this club will work with the police department in managing the new police department shooting range. This is an excellent opportunity to work with the local public in providing a safe, clean and professionally managed firearms range that responsible citizens can utilize. A meeting for anyone interested will be held at the Winslow Police Department on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you are interested, please call Lt. On September 14, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. until September 15, 2018, at 3:00 a.m., then again on September 15, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. until September 16, 2018, at 3:00 a.m. the Route 66 DUI Task Force will be conducting a DUI Enforcement Detail in the City of Holbrook. Agencies taking part in the detail include the City of Holbrook Police Department, City of Winslow Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Arizona Department of Liquor. Please drink responsibly and utilize a safe driver. You booze, You cruise, You lose!

The Winslow Police Department is selling raffle tickets in order to raise money for our First Annual Awards Dinner and Ceremony. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards showing appreciation to all of the Winslow Police Department Staff Members for their time and dedication to the City of Winslow throughout the past year. The drawing for the raffle winners will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. You do not need to be present to win. Little Colorado Medical Center is hosting a Car Seat Safety Booth at Winslow Dental during the Winslow Mid Summer Days event. The Little Colorado Medical Center, Winslow Police Department, Winslow Fire Department and Action Medical are dedicated to keeping your little ones safe. If you have a car seat, take a few minutes and go down to our Booth at Winslow Dental and see Cpl. Calnimptewa, Ofc. Jordan, Ofc. Jake and Ofc. Rhoads to get your car seat inspected. They will be there until 2:00 P.M.

On August 8, 2018 the Winslow Police Department congratulated fifteen members of the community for successfully completing and graduating from the 2018 Citizens Police Academy. During the course of eight weeks the students dedicated their time attending classes such as History of Policing, Traffic Laws, Driving, Major Crimes, Tactical Operations, VIRTRA Live Scenarios, and School Safety. These men and women were presented with a Certificate of Graduation. The Winslow Police Department looks forward to conducting a Citizens Police Academy each and every year. Today, Ofc. Q. Begody taught a Defensive Tactics class to the AZ Long-Term Care staff under Navajo Nation's Dept. of Social Services at Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort. This was Winslow Police Department's third time teaching this class. Ofc. Begody had fun instructing the class, and the AZ Long-Term Care staff under Navajo Nation's Dept. of Social Services enjoyed the training.

Drivers please use caution while in the area of North Park and Mahoney. The crosswalk has been repainted, and a school crossing guard will now be present to assist children crossing the street effective this morning.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lt. Ken Arend Karend@winslowaz.gov 928-289-2461 July 25, 2018 Officer Involved Shooting Responding to a Report of Burglary in Progress Winslow, AZ – On July 25, 2018 at approximately 12:50 A.M., Officers from the Winslow Police Department responded to an active burglary alarm at Moore’s Pawn Shop, located in the 1000 block of West Third Street in Winslow, Arizona. During the search of the building, Officers encountered an armed suspect inside the establishment. The suspect shot at the Officers, Officer returned fire striking the subject. The male suspect was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center where he is reported to be in stable condition at this time. No Officers were injured during the shooting. The Arizona Department of Public Safety was requested and is investigating the incident. No further information will be made available at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.

On Friday July 20th at approximately 1100 hours, Officers of the Winslow Police Department received information about a suspicious looking dodge charger with law enforcement style lighting mounted to the front windshield. The vehicle was a rental out of California. Through information relayed from the observations of the graveyard shift and collaboration of the day shift Patrol Sergeant, Officers conducted a traffic stop for obstruction of view on Desmond Street. Investigation led to the arrest of two individuals and a thorough search of the vehicle was conducted revealing these items in the luggage and also secured in the rear panels of the vehicle. The suspects were booked for possession and transportation related charges. *****suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.******
