Auxiliary Police Lieutenant Wilton Haynes was recognized by Arizona Governor Douglas Ducey with the Service to Others award at the 16th Annual Volunteer Service Awards ceremony on Thursday. Mr. Haynes has been volunteering since 1973 in Pinal County and Apache Junction in a variety of programs. Since 2012, he has given over 2,800 hours of service, saving the citizens of AJ $64,500. We are very proud and thankful for all that Wilton Haynes does!

The Fry’s Field of Dreams supporting Law Enforcement and the Special Olympics is scheduled for tomorrow, October 26th from 3:30 - 6:00 pm at the new Fry’s Marketplace at 90 E. Old West Highway. Members of the Police Department will be there to collect donations for Arizona Special Olympic athletes.

Apache Junction Police Officers led area law enforcement agencies in raising funds for the Phoenix Walk Like MADD 5K event. This past Saturday officers and their families participated in the fun walk that was held at the Phoenix Zoo. $3,629 was raised to honor the victims and survivors of crashes.

On Saturday, Officer Wesley Kelley was recognized by the Arizona Society Sons of the American Revolution as the Apache Junction Officer of the Year at a meeting in Mesa. SAR President Ed Koeneman made the presentation.

On Friday, members of the Apache Junction Police Department and the Superstition Fire and Medical District were recognized by Cookies for a Cop and our Fire Friends. Shaina Goodman and her family presented cookies at a local fire station. Police Chief Thomas E Kelly and members of the Patrol Section joined Firefighters for the act that will continue into this week across the country “to bring kindness to our first responders.”
