The Apache Junction Police Department today held its annual memorial ceremony as part of National Police Week. Law enforcement departments across the country come together to recognize, honor and remember those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind. In Apache Junction, we remember the loss of Officer Russell Duncan who died during a training exercise in 1983. We thank the Pipes and Drums from the Superstition Fire and Medical District for participating this morning.

Annually, the Apache Junction Police Department (AJPD) joins communities across the United States who will come together during National Police Week—May 13-19. Locally, we at AJPD reflect and remember the loss of Officer Russell Duncan who died during a training exercise on November 9, 1983. May he and his family be remembered and honored during this time. The public is invited to join us for a Memorial Remembrance on Wednesday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. We will gather outside of the entrance at the police department, 1001 N. Idaho Road.
