Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the first 9-1-1 call. On February 16, 1968, the first 9-1-1 call was made in Haleyville, Alabama. Today, over 5000 Public Safety Answering Points around the world answer over 200,000 9-1-1 calls every day. Eighty percent of those calls are from cell phones.
From the small begining, 9-1-1 technology has become more sophisticated over the years in response to consumer expectations. Each advancement has improved our nation's ability to get better, more reliable information to the first responders so they can do their job of saving lives and property.
On behalf of Gila River Public Safety, we celebrate a full half century of this effort to keep our public safe and look forward to the challenges of the future.
Happy 50th Birthday!!!
