On 04/24/2018, at approximately 2045 hours, the McFarland Police Department received a call of two subjects suffering from gunshot wounds in the 200 block of Robertson Avenue. Officers responded to the area and determined that a shooting had occurred in the 200 block of Robertson Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed that some type of an unknown argument ensued outside of the location. A 36-year-old male subject was shot once in each leg and an 8-year-old victim was shot once in the heel of the foot. At this time, the 8-year-old victim did not appear to be the intended target. The victims were transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Officers located several shell casings and spent rounds at the scene. The victims are residents of McFarland. At this time, the identities of the victims are not being released. They are listed in stable condition with no life-threatening wounds. We have limited suspect information at this time. It is with great sadness to announce the sudden passing of retired McFarland Police K-9 Ringo. Ringo passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Ringo retired from the MPD in January of 2017 after serving over six years with the department. Ringo served as a dual-purpose patrol dog locating narcotics, evidence, and the apprehension of suspects. Ringo has played an important role in law enforcement for the City of McFarland. Ringo has assisted in the apprehensions of numerous felony suspects, large seizures of narcotics, locating missing juveniles, and locating evidence. Ringo was part of a highway narcotics interdiction unit focusing on the trafficking of drugs through the City. Ringo assisted other law enforcement agencies during vehicle pursuits, foot pursuits, and locating hiding suspects and contraband. In many cases, Ringo was used during situations when it was otherwise unsafe for officers and posed a significant risk to them. Ringo spent his retirement years with his family and handler Sergeant Jerrod Place. We would like to thank Ringo for all his service and much dedication to the MPD and citizens of McFarland. Rest easy Ringo, we will take it from here.
