It is with great sadness that the La Verne Police Department announces the death of retired Lieutenant Emeral Dwayne (Ed) Morrett. Lieutenant Morrett passed away at his home in Yucca Valley yesterday at the age of 86 years old. Ed was born on August 19, 1931.
Ed started his career with the La Verne Police Department as a police dispatcher and later became an officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in December of 1965 and then to Lieutenant in 1979.
Ed retired on August 19, 1986 after 23 years of service to the community of La Verne. He was known for his calm demeanor and ability to not let his feathers get ruffled. He was also known for always having a cigarette in his mouth, back when the city allowed employees to smoke on duty. He was a quiet individual, but was known to be stern and didn’t put up with nonsense. He was, what you would call, a “cops cop”.
We thank him for the many years he spent serving the Department and community. Rest in Peace Lieutenant Morrett.
