Great work Pomona PD! Pomona PD Special Investigation Unit Arrest Man in Possession of Illegal Firearms and Stolen Property On Tuesday, April 17th around 12:30pm the Pomona PD Special Investigation Unit (SIU) arrested 35 –year-old Pomona resident, Jason Travis Kosmatka on suspicion of drug activity and possession of illegal firearms and stolen property. A subsequent search of Kosmatka’s home resulted in the discovery of 5 firearms, a large amount of ammunition, a stolen Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and methamphetamine. The investigation began after our SIU and Detectives received an anonymous tip. Kosmatka was arrested on the 1600 block of Flanagan St. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Pomona Police Department at (909)620-2085. Village Academy High School, in conjunction with the Pomona Police Department and the California Highway Patrol, recently participated in the “Every 15 Minutes” program. The program, aimed at high school juniors and seniors, educates the students and their families about the dangers of drinking and driving. On Thursday, April 12th, students from Village Academy were participants in a mock traffic collision that was staged in the school parking lot. The simulation included on-scene trauma triage, DUI investigation and hospital treatment/death. The program concluded today, April 13th, with an assembly where students who participated in the program were reunited with their family and friends. Village Academy students watched a powerful video of the previous day’s activities and heard from several guest speakers. The program was funded by the California Highway Patrol and Village Academy High School.

Suspect Arrested for Committing at Least 18 Robberies DATE / TIME: Thursday, April 5, 2018 LOCATION: Area of Indian Hill/ San Antonio CRIME: 211 PC- Robbery Series Arrest 245(a)(2) PC- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Firearm 487(d)(2) PC- Grand Theft Firearm VICTIM: Multiple Pomona Businesses SUSPECT: Jorge Armando Sanchez Frias, 33, Transient SUSPECT VEHICLE: Black, 1998, Ford, Expedition UNIT: Patrol Division/ Detective Bureau/ Special Investigations Unit/ San Gabriel Valley Crime Impact Task Force) NARRATIVE: On April 1, 2018 at approximately 4:00pm, Pomona PD officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a market in the 1100 block of West Second St. The suspect, later identified as Jorge Armando Sanchez Frias (a 33-year-old transient) entered the market pointing a gun at the market employee and immediately demanded money. The employee complied and in the process of handing over the money, pulled his own gun on Frias. This resulted in an altercation between the suspect and the victim, as seen in the video provided to Pomona PD by the owner of the market. The suspect fled on foot with both firearms and the money. The victim suffered minor injuries and is expected to be ok. On April 5, 2018 the Pomona Police Department located and arrested Jorge Armando Sanchez Frias, in the area of Indian Hill/Towne Ave. Frias is suspected of committing a series of robberies in the City of Pomona and nearby cities. The robbery series started on January 5, 2018 and continued until April 1, 2018. Frias is believed to be responsible for a total of 18 robberies during the 3-month time span, with 13 of the robberies occurring in the City of Pomona. The investigation remains ongoing. Pomona PD is currently working with the following agencies regarding this robbery series: Azusa PD Chino PD SBSO (Chino Station and Rancho Station) Upland PD Montclair PD LASD (Walnut/San Dimas Station) Ontario PD As of today, the District Attorney’s Office has filed (14) counts of second degree robbery, (1) count of assault with a deadly weapon with a firearm and (1) count of grand theft firearm.

Date: Wednesday April 11, 2018 Time: 12:05 AM Location: 10660 Silicon Av., Montclair, CA Crime: 29800 (a)(1) PC- Felon possession of a firearm 30305 (a) PC- Felon possession of ammunition 25850(c)(6) PC- Possession of an unregistered firearm Suspect: Tom McGhuey, a 59 Year Old Montclair Resident Unit: The Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force Narrative: On Wednesday April 11, 2018, and at approximately 0005 hours the Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Task Force was assisted by the Pomona Police Department’s SWAT team with the execution of a search warrant. The Major Crimes Task Force obtained information through gathered intelligence of a possible narcotic and firearms dealer. The nexus between the city of Montclair and the city of Pomona was that Tom McGhuey was providing narcotics and firearms to Pomona gang members. The Task Force obtained a search warrant for Suspect McGhuey’s place of business/ residence. The search warrant was executed by the Pomona Police SWAT team where three assault type rifles were located along with 170 pounds of suspected marijuana and several live rounds of high caliber ammunition. Suspect McGuey was arrested on the above listed charges and was transported to the West Valley Detention center for booking and housing.
