Whittier Police Department News

Attention parents and caretakers: At about 2:40pm two 12-year-old girls were walking home from Hillview Middle school. While walking in the 10300 block of Hester Avenue, they were contacted by a driver of a newer model Toyota Camry, gray in color. The car pulled next to the girls and a driver described as a white male in a gray sweatshirt made some statements about getting help looking for his dog. The girls walked away from the vehicle and did not engage in conversation with the driver. They notified parents when they arrived at their respective homes. While we continue to investigate this incident, please talk with your kids about the importance of not conversing with or following the directions of strangers.

Roads are wet this morning and more rain is expected tomorrow. Please remember to: 🚔Reduce speeds (safe speed in rainy conditions many times is below the posted speed limit) 🚔Increase the distance between you and the car in front 🚔Headlights on, wipers in good operating condition 🚔Full attention to the road, signs, signals and traffic around you. Driving in the rain is not a common experience in California, so new drivers may not be used to the change in conditions. If you have new drivers at home, spend a few minutes going over safety considerations and maybe get in the car with them today and tomorrow to make sure they understand how they need to adjust their driving behavior.
