On 06/10/2018, at 9:54 PM, Officers from the Fontana Police Department responded to the 15100 block of Coleen, located in the southern area of Fontana. Upon arrival, a victim was located in the streets suffering from a gun shot wound to the chest. The victim who was identified as Jalen Wilson 19, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators arrived on scene working tirelessly to identify the suspect. Investigators quickly identified the suspect as Sergio Orozco 19, of Fontana. Sergio was located on 06/11/2018, in San Clemente Ca, where he was taken into custody. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the suspect was close friends with the victim. The two were with another friend, leaving a nearby party. When the driver got into his seat, Orozco and Wilson got in an argument over who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Orozco then pulled out a handgun and shot Wilson in the chest. For further media inquiries please contact PIO Officer J. Sayegh at 909-350-7759 or by email at

The Fontana Police Foundation sponsored a lunch for our local seniors at the Ceres Senior Center yesterday. Showing our seniors that we care and appreciate what they have given to our community is important to us. Servers were represented from multiple units at our department. Dispatchers, Code Enforcement, Animals Services, Crime Prevention, Investigations, Community Service Officers, Narcotics Unit and Administration. We had a great time getting to know our seniors.

DUI Checkpoint Nets 6 Arrests Fontana, CA – The Fontana Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on June 9, 2018, on Cherry, at Santa Ana, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public. In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes. Fontana PD supports the new effort from the Office of Traffic Safety that aims to educate all drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI. Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol. As a result of this Checkpoint: 1,287 Vehicles Screened 3 Individuals arrested for DUI (2-Alcohol and 1-Drug/Alcohol) 2 Individuals arrested on an outstanding warrant 1 Individual arrested for Child Endangerment 29 Drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked 4 Other Citations issued Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP,” free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver, from free non-alcoholic drinks to free appetizers and more. The feature-packed app even has social media tie-ins and even a tab for the non-DD to call Uber, Lyft or Curb. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses that can exceed $10,000 not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out. Fontana PD will be conducting additional DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints throughout the upcoming holiday season in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1’.
