John was eventually diagnosed with multiple mental health conditions. While on probation, he took advantage of mental health services and got on medication. He said probation helped him see a doctor and a psychiatrist regularly and take several classes that addressed his issues. He is now off probation. Looking back, he said he had good probation officers who took the time to understand what he was going through and helped him succeed.
