La Mesa Police Department News

January 9th, 2018, is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.). In light of recent negativity directed toward law enforcement nationally, there is a need to show law enforcement officers that we recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, in public service to us all. Feel free to use this as your Profile Picture.

Congratulations Officer Cerda! After 30 years of service to the Community of La Mesa, you have earned your retirement. Thanks for everything! (Note: this walk-out ceremony took place on 12//28/17)

The LMPOA wishes all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year!

The LMPOA sends its condolences to the men and women of the California Highway Patrol. Officer Andrew Camilleri was killed by a suspected drunk driver on Christmas Eve while working in Hayward.

Congratulations to SDPOA’s Brian Marvel on his election as President of PORAC (Peace Officers Research Association of California)

Enjoy your long weekend and don't forget to thank a Veteran.

Congratulations to Officer Keys! He graduated from the Police Academy and was assigned to patrol this weekend. Welcome aboard.

It was good to see so many familiar faces, past and present, at Tom's Celebration. Here is a copy of the Memorial Video we played during his eulogy.

Not a Memorial but a Celebration! Exactly the way Tommy would've wanted it. For family, friends, and co-workers. Hope to see you there.

Officer Tom Ruth (Retired 2009) was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom's wife during this difficult time. He will never be forgotten. *This picture was just taken 2 weeks ago watching Sunday football.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the first responders in Northern California.
