Lots of items have been turned into the PD. If you have lost an item recently such as a bike tire or keys, please check with our friendly Police Service Technician who can let you know if we have your stuff.

The Fruita Police Department is asking for any assistance in identifying the people or vehicle used in a theft at the La Quinta on March 17th at about 3:40 in the morning. A red and black Santa Cruz mountain bike was stolen valued at about $4,500. If you have any information, please call our dispatch at 242-6707 or Crime Stoppers at 241-STOP.

UPDATE: owner located; dog returned. This black lab (male with a blue Colorado symbol collar) was found in the 900 Blk. of E. Columbine Ave in Fruita. If you know where he belongs please contact the Fruita Police Department at (970) 242-6707. Thanks.

Here is an important message about school safety from the law enforcement leaders of the valley.

We have successfully completed the re-accreditation process through the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP). Police departments must pass a review by CACP of the agencies' policy and procedures and practices to ensure it is in compliance with the Association's standards.

FRUITA, Colo- J and 19 Roads are back open after a suicidal male barricaded himself inside a home on the 900 block of 19 Road in Fruita Thursday night. At 10:09 pm Fruita Police responded to reports of shots fired at a residence. Officers attempted to make contact with the male. He was uncooperative and barricaded himself inside the home. The male was believed to be suicidal and intoxicated. He did fire off rounds into the backyard. There are no reports of any injuries. He was believed to be the only person in the house. A Community Notification went out to 50 residences in the surrounding community advising them to shelter in place. That has since been lifted. Colorado State Patrol assisted with closing 19 Road and J Road during the incident. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and Grand Junction Police Department SWAT team worked with Fruita Police to attempt to make contact with the male. The subject was not located, however the gun believed used in the incident was found and secured. Fruita Police is continuing to investigate. Fruita High School and Fruita 8/9 will start on time Friday as scheduled. Fruita Police will have extra patrols on campus out of an abundance of caution. No threats have been made against the school.
