Northeast Florida Camp Cadet has laid the foundation for these young men and women who are past graduates of Camp Cadet. Congratulations and thank you for serving our country both foreign and domestic. These are a few of many past graduates who chose a career in either law enforcement or the military. You all make us proud!

This afternoon the GCSPD held a retirement lunch for Ofc. J.J. Faro, who recently retired after 21 years with our department. Mr. Faro also served with the U.S. Navy, Jacksonville Beach Police Department, and the Department of Defense Police. Today's celebration was attended by new and former officers, including former Chief of Police, Mr. Gail Russell. Congratulations to Mr. Faro for a long career of public service.

Congratulations to Chief Derek Asdot on being the recipient of the Elks Lodge Distinguished Citizenship Award for 2017-2018. It is definitely well deserved!

This morning our department provided staff at City Hall with training on how to properly respond to Active Shooter situations. The training was a great success and both sides gained valuable information and insight. Our number one goal is to keep our City safe!

NOTICE: GCSPD will be participating in tactical training at city hall this morning. As normal, city hall will be closed today to normal business.

UPDATE: David Lee Evans has been arrested by the Green Cove Springs Police Department.

UPDATE: GCSPD is currently looking for David Lee Evans in connection with the shooting which occurred earlier tonight. Evans is 24 years old, 5-11, and approximately 160lbs. Anyone with information on his location should contact us at 904-529-2220. Evans may be armed and dangerous.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Officer Lance Whitaker both blood and blue. RIP Officer Whitaker.

BREAKING NEWS: GCSPD officers and investigators are currently investigating a shooting in the 1000 block of Center Street. An update will be issued when officers obtain more information.

GCSPD is rolling out our new, cooler, uniforms just in time for the hot summer months (name tags should arrive soon).

The afternoon day on the range was for city employees and their families. It was definitely a hot one but enjoyed by all.

The Magnolia Point Women's Club enjoyed a Day on the Range with Chief Derek Asdot and his staff at Basics Shooting Range this morning. Congratulations to Cheryle Newman for being awarded the Annie Oakley Champion Markswoman! After the range a delicious breakfast was enjoyed by all at the Elks Lodge.

Community members came out this evening to enjoy Food Truck Friday. There lots of cool finds at the shops on Walnut Street, food trucks with great food and entertainment at St. Elmo's Square.
