HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS -A parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children on their neighborhood rounds. - Obtain flashlights with fresh batteries for all children and their escorts. - If your older children are going alone, plan and review the route that is acceptable to you and agree on a specific time when they should return home. - Only go to homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat. -Because pedestrian injuries are the most common injuries to children on Halloween, remind Trick-or-Treaters: - Stay in a group and communicate where they will be going. - Remember reflective tape for costumes and trick-or-treat bags. - Carry a cellphone for quick communication. - Remain on well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk. - If no sidewalk is available, walk at the far edge of the roadway facing traffic. - Never cut across yards or use alleys. - Only cross the street as a group in established crosswalks and never cross between parked cars. - Don't assume the right of way - motorists may have trouble seeing Trick-or-Treaters. Just because one car stops, doesn't mean others will! - Law enforcement authorities should be notified immediately of any suspicious or unlawful activity.

FYI Friday! A recap of what we have been up to this past week. • There have been several questions as well as concerns submitted to us regarding the operation of golf carts within the City of Clewiston. I would like to take the opportunity to address these at this time and hopefully clear up misunderstanding there may be. The following list addresses the questions or concerns that have been posed to us: - Can you legally cross Highway 27? Not at this time, as we move forward we will be working with the Florida Department of Transportation in hopes of establishing at least one crossing for Highway 27. This however will be contingent upon an engineering study conducted by FDOT to assess the feasibility of establishing a crossing. - Can you drive across a red line? With the exception of Highway 27 yes. We just ask that you be extra vigilant when crossing these roadways. - Can you drive on a red line depicted on the map? The red lines on the published map depict the roadways that golf cart traffic is not permitted on. All other roadways have been designated for use by golf carts. - Does this mean you can drive it around the neighborhood? Absolutely, so long as it meets the minimum equipment and insurance requirements as set forth in the ordinance and has been properly registered with the City of Clewiston, you may operate a golf cart on any city street that has been designated for use by golf carts. - Should you have more questions please feel free to contact us or use the links on the City of Clewiston website to access further information regarding the operation of golf carts on city streets. - We would like to remind everyone also that there is no need, nor do we want you to drive on the shoulders of the roadway or through or across anyone’s yard. You are allowed to operate your golf cart on the roadway so long as it is a designated roadway and your golf cart is properly registered through the City of Clewiston. FYI Friday! A recap of what we have been up to this past week • This past week was largely uneventful, which is not necessarily a bad thing in this business. Officers did make a number of traffic related arrests for reasons ranging from driving under influence to operating a vehicle with a suspended license, or no license at all, to reckless driving. Officers also picked up several individuals for outstanding arrest warrants. • We would like to take the opportunity and remind everyone to be extra cautious on the roadways as school is back in session. We are well aware of the traffic problems created around our schools and rest assured we are working with our partners to resolve these issues. Please be patient and plan accordingly in the meantime. • We should be all set to start registering golf carts towards the end of next week. Until this time I would like to remind everyone that you may not operate a golf cart on a city street until it meets the minimum equipment requirements and you have properly registered your golf cart with the City of Clewiston. You can find the Golf Cart Ordinance on the link below so that you may familiarize yourself with the ordinance and make sure that your golf cart meets the minimum equipment requirements. Should you have any questions please feel free to call us. To read the full FYI, you can go to the City of Clewiston website @
