This Labor Day, the Auburndale Police Department reminds citizens to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. The end of summer is marked by the Labor Day holiday, a time for our country to reflect on the hard work of our fellow Americans. The long weekend is typically celebrated with picnics, pool parties, and barbecues, as families and friends enjoy the last few days of summer before fall and winter approach. Sadly, the Labor Day holiday is also one of the deadliest, with drunk drivers endangering themselves and others on America’s roadways. Auburndale Police Department is partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to stop drunk drivers and help save lives.

Time to think about School Safety again! Polk County Public Schools are back in session beginning this Thursday. Please drive carefully and obey school speed limits during times stated or while lights are flashing. Also, don’t forget that buses will be on their routes and children will be at bus stops all around the county. Remember that you are required to stop for buses loading and unloading while their lights are flashing. The only time you are not required to stop for buses is if there is an unpaved area between lanes of at least five feet, a raised median, or a physical barrier between you and the bus. Fines are hefty for violations in school zones and around stopped school buses so please obey the law.
