Haines City Police Department News

The Haines City Police Department Honor Guard members are traveling to Titusville today to show support for a fallen brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Florida (Official) today as they lay Deputy Stanton to rest. #fallenbrother #thinbluelinefamily #weseeyou #gonebutnotforgotten

Tristan Calixe, 22 is sitting in jail tonight. Early this morning, the Haines City Police Department was contacted after a 15-year old girl was attacked during her walk to school. She was approached from behind, grabbed around the neck by Calixe and thrown to the ground. But because she screamed and fought back, she was able to successfully ward off her attacker. She kept a level head, ran from the area, and provided a great description of the suspect to our detectives. Her description seemed to match that of a recently released prisoner (Calixe), who only lived a few hundred yards from the incident location. He had been released after spending two years in prison for violently battering a 14-year old girl in a similar fashion, very close to this incident's location. Tristan Calixe is on currently on probation for those past charges. Thanks to the cooperation and teamwork of all involved, we were able to quickly locate and take another offender off the street! #nottoday #teamwork #bravegirl #HCFORWARD

Residents: Please be aware of who is coming to your door! We have seen incidents in several areas of Polk County, where unknown individuals come to the door claiming to be someone they’re not! In these types of incidents, a person claiming to be an official or worker from the water/cable/utility company gets the homeowner to exit the residence. While they are outside, another subject goes into the home and removes jewelry and other valuables. REMEMBER: “If in doubt, keep them out!” If someone you are not expecting comes to your door, put the chain on first. Ask for their ID, and check it by phone! If you are still unsure, call the police department!

We serve and protect all Haines City residents! Including cute little woodland creatures. But seriously, don't make a habit of touching baby raccoons. They may carry rabies. And their mother may not want them back. Although cute, Corporal Smith and Officer Waring turned him over to a vet so he can be properly cared for. #trashpanda #noresidentleftbehind

In response to the myriad of comments and questions in regards to this post... Yes, Armando De Dios Cruz is undocumented. The main purpose of our post was not to highlight this particular issue, but more that he fled the scene without checking on the welfare of his step-children or the other driver involved in the crash. While we appreciate your comments and concerns, we also would like to request that you keep your posts civil and related to the actual post. As a reminder, we have a profanity filter installed on our page, so if you use vulgar language your comment will be automatically hidden.

Please help us congratulate these Officers! This afternoon we held an official swearing-in ceremony for Officers Hannah Armbruster and Jose Ramirez; Chris Colon and David Smith were promoted to the rank of Corporal; and Shawn Nobre was promoted to the rank of Sergeant! We couldn't be more proud of the accomplishments of these Officers! #HCFORWARD

Officer Armbruster would like to share these words with the community... and we would have to agree! “Children are not a distraction from more important work, they are the most important work. People often thank us for our service and ask us how we do what we do. Everyone has a different reason for choosing this career, but I think most of us would agree that we do it for the moments pictured above. We do it for the children who count on us, we do it for the families who need us and we do it because we love it. I have been lucky enough to meet so many families and children who have changed my life and inspired me to keep doing what I do.” #beinspired #weseeyoutoo #weloveourcommunity #childrenareourfuture

*UPDATE* Roadway has been reopened. Patrol units are working a crash on Highway 17-92 North. Right now, all lanes are SHUT DOWN and traffic is being re-routed. If you can, please avoid the area until further notice. Thanks!

How's THIS for parenting? Armando De Dios Cruz was driving his 6-year old and 13-year old stepdaughters on 1/21/18, when he violated the right-of-way of another driver. When the vehicle crashed and rolled over, the 6-year-old was ejected from the vehicle. As if that wasn't enough, Armando fled the scene without checking on the welfare of either child! The driver of the vehicle he hit also sustained a broken wrist. By the way, Armando does not have a valid driver's license. A warrant has been issued for Armando's arrest, and we currently have the following charges - Leaving the scene of a crash with injury and Child Neglect. #Parentoftheyear

We've said it before, and we'll say it again... it doesn't matter how old you are, or how much it cost... stealing is stealing! We are attempting to identify this man, who not only stole a $5 tip left on the table next to him, but then got up and left Denny's without paying. If anyone knows who he is, please contact us! #stealingisstealing #dinerdash

**ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY** This guy's got a real problem! The HCPD is trying to figure out who he is - Yesterday he walked into our CVS Pharmacy and battered two customers before leaving the scene... but we also think he's the same guy who battered two Wal-Mart employees in Lake Wales a few days ago. Who knows who he is??

On Christmas Eve, as Charlotte Davies and her family visited Manny’s Chophouse, they ran into Officers Webster and Kallmeyer. Charlotte tell us that she’s from England, and “never in all our years have we met such passionate and dedicated members of the police force… We don't have the drive to serve that your men clearly have over here… We would like to personally thank these people for taking the time to speak to us, talk and interact with my children, and give them an outlook on the police force that unfortunately they have never witnessed in our home country of the UK.” Charlotte, we appreciate your kind words, and we are happy to serve you during your stay in our city!
