On Thursday, May 17th, 2018 around 1:50am, 2 black males entered the Haines City Walmart and selected $1928.22 in merchandise. The subjects proceeded to the checkout line where they distracted the cashier after she had scanned all of the items. After getting her to look away from the register, one of the suspects pushes a button on the cash register, closing out the transaction and making it appear as if it had been paid for. The manager came over and began conversing with the males, so they left the store without taking the merchandise. Anyone with information regarding this incident, please contact Detective Gomez at 863-421-3636 ext. 2236. Anyone with information who wants to REMAIN ANONYMOUS and be eligible for a CASH REWARD is asked to call HEARTLAND CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-226-TIPS or log onto www.P3tips.com to submit your tip via the web. The Haines City Police Department is deeply saddened to learn of yet another senseless tragedy in today's school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. Chief Elensky wants to remind you that you will continue to see an armed law enforcement presence in our community's schools. In addition to the School Resource Officers assigned to every school, HCPD Patrol Officers and FHP Troopers will also be conducting periodic walk-throughs to ensure the safety of our children. Also remember that if you or your children see anything suspicious, out of place, or hear of any threats to the safety of the school or others, to please contact HCPD immediately! We take these reports seriously and will continue to investigate them to the fullest extent. Again, we would like to finish out the rest of the school year with safety and security as the paramount importance!
