As National Police Week winds down, we would like to say thank you to everyone who went out of their way to show support our officers! We have a wonderful community and we are proud to serve and protect the City of Port Orange.

We will be accepting unwanted or unused prescriptions tomorrow from 10:00a - 2:00p at the Port Orange Police Department (4545 Clyde Morris Blvd.)

Attention Port Orange boaters, a 5K race scheduled for Saturday, 5/5/18 will disrupt the normal traffic patterns. Due to the racecourse being along Dunlawton Ave. between Halifax Dr. and Penninsula Dr., traffic cones will be blocking access to boat ramps/parking on the north side of the bridge between 6:30a - 9:30a. Please be mindful of this if in the area and drive safely!

Important information regarding suspicious activity and what to do when you see it...

We would like to thank our friends in the CountrySide Lakes Senior Living Community for collecting over 300 stuffed animals and dontaing them to POPD. *This is the first of a weekly community outreach effort to help find resuce animals forever homes* This is Sarge, an apprx. 3y/o German Short Haired Pointer, and he is available for adoption through a local animal rescue, Florida Pointer Rescue. Sarge was rescued from a kill shelter apprx. 1 week ago and is now looking for his forever home. He is neutered, heartworm negative, and current on shots... Sarge needs a home with no small pets, dogs or cats due to his high hunting drive and he would do best with an owner familiar with the GSP breed. Sarge knows some hunting commands and and would fit well with an owner/family that hunts. Sarge and the other dogs up for adoption can be seen at their regular adoption event held each Saturday at the New Smyrna Beach Pet Supermarket (near Publix on SR 44) between 10 am to 2 pm. For more information, please visit their website at http://www.floridapointerrescue.com/ For food donations: http://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/15R880XM7WH7I

***** UPDATE - Daniel was located last night, thank you for all of your help in getting him home safely! ***** If you have information pertaining to the whereabouts of Daniel Mais, please call 386-248-1777.

***Attention Port Orange residents*** There has been a noticeable increase in the reports of sick raccoons in Volusia and surrounding counties over the past few months, including in the City of Port Orange. These sick raccoons have shown signs and symptoms of Distemper. Raccoons are susceptible to both canine and feline distemper, both of which can be deadly to your pets. Please do not leave pet food outside that can attract wildlife and consider contacting your vet to discuss vaccination options for your pets. Raccoons that are infected with Distemper often move slowly, stumble, appear confused and can lose their fear of humans. Some sick raccoons can become aggressive. If you notice a raccoon behaving abnormally or showing signs of being sick, do not approach and avoid contact with the raccoon. Report the animal to Volusia County Dispatch at (386) 248-1777 to have an Animal Control Officer dispatched.

There was a report made yesterday regarding a missing/suicidal juvenile... The juvenile has been RECOVERED. We appreciate all of the tips that have been provided regarding this case!
