The Memorial Day holiday weekend is a busy time for Americans. Every year, the highways and byways are filled with families in vehicles, as they head out to start their summer vacations. As we help to keep drivers and passengers safe, the Kingsland Police Department and the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is reminding motorists to Click It or Ticket. Our goal by enforcing seat belt usage is to assist in keeping families safe. This campaign will take place May 21st thru June 3rd, synchronized with the busy travel season. As Memorial Day weekend approaches and the summer vacation season starts, we want to keep our community members as well as visitors as safe as possible, and make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a crash: buckling up. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half (48%) of the passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in 2016 were unrestrained. Participating law enforcement agencies will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations day and night. To learn more about the nationwide Click It or Ticket effort, visit https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/seat-belts.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family as well as the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office family during this tragic time of loss.

U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 3,450 lives in 2016 alone. Let’s do all we can to save lives, and prevent this dangerous behavior by not texting and driving. During the Month of April, Kingsland Police Officers as well as officers nationwide will be on the look out for drivers texting or using their phone behind the wheel. Officer Griffith urges motorists to follow the tips below in order help prevent tragedies: •Turn off electronic devices and put them out of reach or connect them to a Bluetooth device before starting to drive. •Be good role models for young drivers and set a good example. Talk with your teens about responsible driving. •Speak up when you are a passenger and your driver uses an electronic device while driving. Offer to make the call for the driver, so his or her full attention stays on the driving task. •Always wear your seat belt. Seat belts are the best defense against unsafe drivers. Stay Safe & Have an Amazing Weekend!!

Earlier today local law enforcement received a notification about a Snapchat post of a male making threats to do harm at "CHS." We were immediately notified by the St. Marys Police Department who also notified the Camden County Sheriff's Office regarding the situation. Collectively, all law enforcement agencies begin an investigation into these threats from the post. Since the initiation of this investigation we have discovered this press release from Clovis, New Mexico and followed up with investigators from the Clovis Police Department. The original press release was obtained as well as the original post from the press release resulting in their charges. The post we were investigating was the actual post used in Clovis, New Mexico earlier. If you were made aware of this post, this has been dealt with and is NOT from our jurisdiction. We would like to say a great big "thank you" to not only the KPD officers, but to the officers of the St. Marys Police Department as well as to the deputies of the Camden County Sheriff's Office, who came in on this Sunday afternoon to bring all of the correct information to light. #KingslandPD #StMarysPD #CamdenCountySheriff #ServingUnited
