Atlanta Police Department News

What a beautiful Saturday to spend time with the Atlanta Police Department's Aviation Unit at the Villages of Carver YMCA.

APD PROUD: On April 17, 2018 Atlanta Police Department's Air Unit was called to assist an undercover unit in Northwest Atlanta watching a parked stolen car. While in route to the call, the stolen car began moving and the undercover unit and an APEX unit tried to locate the car. APD's Phoenix helicopter was able to get a visual on the car and provide updates to ground units. The stolen car eventually pulled into Flipper Temple Apartments on Abner Terrace NW where three suspects were seen running from the car. Phoenix was able to give a description of all three suspects as they ran into the breezeway of a building. Moments later, APEX, Zone 1 officers, and K9 arrived on scene. Phoenix then directed units in setting up a perimeter around the building. K9 Officer Basile used his dog to track the suspects to an apartment where all three were located hiding in a bedroom closet. The suspects were taken into custody without incident and have been linked to multiple crimes in the Cobb County jurisdiction including several auto thefts. Great job to everyone involved! #GoodWork #BestandBrightest #WeCatchBadGuys

Chief Erika Shields and the entire Atlanta Police Department send their heartfelt condolences to the Gilchrist Co. Sheriff Department and the families of these two officers. Sgt. Noel Ramirez and Deputy Taylor Lindsey were ambushed as they were dining in a restaurant. A gunman walked up to the building and opened fire on the two officers through a window, killing both officers.
