Good afternoon, Milton! We hope you are enjoying your summer! Speaking of summer, did you know that crime, specifically property crime (Burglaries, Entering Autos, etc.), tends to spike during the summer months? We would like to take a minute to give you all a few tips and tricks to help you from becoming a victim. First and foremost, please always lock your house and cars! If the doors aren’t locked it is very easy for a criminal to steal from you. If you have an alarm system, make sure it is activated and being monitored by an alarm company. While not at home, keep your window blinds closed and your windows locked. Keep shrubbery around your house trimmed and below the window line. Have a neighbor collect your paper and mail while you are out of town so that it doesn’t build up or place a stoppage on the service for the duration of your trip. Most importantly, if your see suspicious activity, report it. We at the Milton Police Department also offer vacation checks. If you are going out of town, you can request for the police to check your home while you are away. Not only do we offer this service but we encourage you to take advantage of it! Please follow this link and fill out the short form. https://www.cityofmiltonga.us/forms-permits/online-forms/vacation-patrol-request/

****UPDATE***** With the cooperation of witnesses who came forward and the work of MPD officers, the suspect who fled from officers in this incident was identified and has been taken into custody. He has been charged with several traffic violations as well as theft of motor vehicle and entering an auto, both felonies. He was lodged at the Fulton County Jail on Thursday evening on those charges. - Captain, CS Barstow, City of Milton Police Department Earlier this evening, Milton Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Bethany Bend near Hopewell Rd. When officers arrived, they found that the driver of the vehicle had fled on foot. In an attempt to locate the driver, who was reported to have been injured, officers utilized a K-9 to try and track the suspect, but were unable to successfully locate him. It was determined that the suspect was able to elude the officers and enter a neighboring jurisdiction. The suspect was only briefly in Milton and has no known ties to the area. He is not expected to return and at no point was he determined to be a threat to nearby residents or homes. The Milton Police Department takes the safety and security of its residents very seriously and had the situation posed an immediate danger to the Milton Community, we would have utilized the multiple platforms available to us to convey that information and keep the Milton community updated. We hope that this update will help clarify some of the information being circulated on other social media applications and reassures our residents that there is no ongoing “manhunt” or danger to the residents of Milton.
