Brunswick Police Department News

From Georgia Power. We (BPD) just had a report today about someone who lost some money.

SCAM ALERT!!!!! We've received several calls today in reference to a Georgia Power scam. The caller is calling businesses and residences threatening to shut the power off if their power bill isn't paid immediately over the phone. As always, do not give out your account numbers and credit card numbers over the phone. If you receive a call similar to this, you should hang up and call the phone number on your Georgia Power bill( 1.888.660.5890) not the number the caller provides you with. If your power is going to be shut off, you should have already received a bill stating that you are past due. Again,Do NOT release your personal information!

Today we celebrate and remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Pictured below at the start of the parade is BPD's Command Staff, left to right: (Capt Tony Smith, Major Greg Post, Chief Kevin Jones, Captain Angela Smith and Captain Wan Thorpe)

Promotion Ceremony, Cpl. Chad Strickland

Great job by the Glynn County Police Department officer and the joint GBNet Drug Enforcement team taking over $600,000 of meth off the streets.

Please be on the lookout for a black male juvenile, possibly 15 to 18 years old, medium complexion, approximately 5'7" and wearing a dark blue or black jacket with a stripe, jeans, white shoes, and a white hat with a red bill. This subject accosted three females at two different businesses in the 1800 block of Gloucester Street this morning at approximately 8:15am. He was possibly attempting to snatch a purse, but was not successful. If you have any information on this individual, please contact the Brunswick Police Department at 912-267-5559.

The Sidney Lanier bridge is now open.

Press release from Glynn County Board of Commissioners. They, like us, are only relaying the information from GDOT. Any issues contact GDOT!!

We have been advised by GSP that the Sidney Lanier Bridge will be closed until tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. The re-opening time depends on status of the falling ice. Barricades and detour signs are being put in place on Hwy 17. This is a GA DOT decision so address any questions to them!

UPDATE2 5:15 PM Thursday: The Sidney Lanier Bridge is closed at this time by the GA DOT for ice and bridge maintenance. We will let you know when it re-opens. UPDATE: The GSP and GA DOT will be closing the bridge very soon because of the falling ice conditions. We will update you with the time and details as soon as we know them. Please plan from this time forward (5:00 PM) to detour around the bridge. The Sidney Lanier Bridge will be temporarily closing by order of the Georgia DOT due to ice on the bridge cables melting and dropping into the roadway. We have not been given an exact time that it will be closed. Please avoid that area.

From Glynn County Board of Commissioners

It's cold and icy. Please stay off the roads and stay warm.

At this time, no roads or bridges are officially closed. However, most roads in Glynn County are icy and slick and should be considered unsafe. If you can stay off the roads, please do so.

There is an accident on the Sidney Lanier Bridge and it's icy on the bridge. DOT is trying to get some trucks here to help the icy roads. The bridge is not closed at this time.

We have not closed the causeway. An accident and icy roads are hindering the traffic. DOT is working to help the situation.

From Glynn County Board of Commissioners

Bridges on the causeway and the Sidney Lanier bridge are being evaluated at this time. An accident on the Causeway has caused problems. Ice on the road is hindering traction.

Some bridges in Glynn County are starting to ice up!! Please stay off the roads. There have already been accidents.

Please follow this warning and stay off the roads tomorrow, Wednesday.
