Hampton Police Department News

Hampton residents, please pay attention to the videos posted in reference to the entering autos happening in our city. We have numerous times put out information, that you must lock your doors to prevent the thefts that are increasingly putting guns out in the streets. Almost all of the entering autos in our county and in our city were and are preventable. In our county and surrounding counties the number of entering autos have increased and way too many guns are being stolen, along with other items that never should be left inside vehicles. In order to help law enforcement to help you, ALWAYS lock your vehicles. Remove phones, purses, electronics, wallets and any other thing of value from your car prior to locking it. NEVER EVER leave a gun in your vehicle whether locked or unlocked. In just a few months we have had numerous entering autos, in which every one of the vehicles were left unlocked. We have also had 4 stolen vehicles, in which all were unlocked, with the keys in them and two of them with the keys in the in the ignition of the unlocked vehicles. In many of these entering autos it is groups of people working as teams. We ask you to keep watch in all our neighborhoods for groups of teens walking in groups or separately on both sides of the street. Do not approach or confront them, but call the police immediately so we can identify the persons and what they might be doing. In the video below you will see in this video a Jeep Cherokee type vehicle enter the lot and park beside a truck by a light pole. The driver exits and walks around the lot and checks doors of other vehicle's by the building. Not finding any doors unlocked, the subject walks back to the truck and finds the door unlocked. In this theft a high powered rifle was stolen from the back seat from the unlocked vehicle. The majority of all entering autos are done on nights when the weather covers the sound and visibility of the crimes. Once again we need you to do your part in helping to reduce the ability to commit the crime by ALWAYS LOCKING your cars. If you do see this type of activity or groups call 770-957-9121 and have officers dispatched. Give as much information as possible without placing yourself in danger.

In the video below you will see that there are five people working together in the driveway as well as across the street. You will notice they get into the unlocked car, but that the locked car made two of them walk away. You will also notice that the second one that tried the locked car has a pistol in his right hand. This video was captured in the Sandstone and Greenleaf subdivisions. The majority of all entering autos are done on nights when the weather covers the sound and visibility of the crimes. We hope everyone is having a great day today and being safe with the in-climate weather. Just a reminder that if you are in the Hampton area tomorrow night, we will be having our annual Christmas Parade. The parade will start at approximately 7 pm Saturday evening, but be prepared for detours and traffic delays as early as 6 pm. As usual we expect a large turnout, so please come join in on the fun and celebration. If you wish to see the parade, arriving an hour before the start time would be best to ensure a place to park or stand. If you use the downtown area as your normal route home, please find and plan for a alternate route during this time. (Saturday December 9, 2017 6pm to finish)

All Citizen firearm graduates, the December open range has been cancelled.

Hampton residents, just a reminder that tonight will be the homecoming parade. As with all parades during the listed time expect long delays if traveling through the city. Have a great day.

Hampton residents and surrounding communities. Please be careful if you venture out today, as this weather passes through. Remember that there may still be trees that were damaged, or loosened from the last storm that came through. Slow down on the wet roadways and pay more attention than normal, as it just may be your own life you save from unseen danger, Be safe and please use due care in all you do today.

Kelly Anne Harman, have no fear we will pass on to Detective hicks your appreciation. Miss Harman blessed the department with a visit along with her very special group of kids. Officer Cooley and Detective Hicks are pictured in the photos, having fun with the group. Miss Harman, it will be rare that you will ever find leftover sweets or coffee at any Police Department ;-)

Great job Bo Turner, as always keeping the high standards and care for our community that we strive to foster. This is a message and review sent by a citizen Addie Bryant Gay in reference to a act by Sgt. Turner, we felt should be shared. For those of you who have never met Bo, we included a picture below as well.

The Hampton Police Department was visited today by these lovely ladies from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Chief Derrick Austin accepted a appreciation certificate from them on behalf of the department, along with some freshly baked brownies!!

Amie Autrey asked if we would share this to our page, so here you go Amie :-) ........... Here is a great thing that I would love to have shared to y'alls page. They invited my 4 year old to have dinner with them and she was over the moon excited and happy. Thank you city of Hampton

Many of you have asked what exactly is the State Certification we just went through and accomplished. State Certification is a very thorough process that many agencies in Georgia have chosen to go through. It is not required by law, nor does not having it negate the ability or legitimacy of any department. The Hampton Police Department has always striven to make sure we are proactive and up to date on issues and the newest information and techniques to better serve our citizens and visitor to our city. Our Chief Derrick Austin elected to become state certified and go through the rigorous process to become one of the State Certified Departments in Georgia. We are an official State Certified Department for our city. To learn more about what this means and the process, please visit this link. http://www.gachiefs.com/index.php/state-certification/

The Hampton Police Department had a special visitor yesterday that absolutely brightened our day. Miss Clara stopped by to say hello and give us some hugs. Officer Cooley, Detective Hicks and Detective Brady were happy to oblige this sweet lady.
