A BIG number to think about. As of this morning 1,198 Drivers have died on GA Roadways in 2017 (numbers are per Governors Office of Highway Safety). Many of those could have been prevented. 59% were not buckled up. Yes 59% were not wearing their seatbelt. Three of the leading causes of fatalities are Driving Under the Influence, Speed, and No Seatbelt. Please DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! Call a taxi, family member, or a friend if you have had anything to drink. Please don’t let friends or family members drink and drive! Please slow down and wear your seatbelt. As we rapidly approach the Holiday Season, that number will unfortunately go even higher, but if you can help save 1 life then you have done your part!

Opioid Addiction, Prescription Drug Addiction you can call it whatever you want, but it’s a DRUG ADDICTION! This is a problem that crosses all economical, racial, social, and gender lines. The Aragon Police Department and Polk County Law Enforcement sees this problem all the time and can lead to felony arrest and convictions. As with any addiction, the person with the addiction must first admit they have a problem. If you suspect a friend or family member has a problem, watch the video. There are resources available to help anyone with an addiction problem.

While Patrolling last night, Sunday night, I made the observation that numerous residents have changed their front porch light to blue. Not assuming anything, I asked one resident why? As I thought it was in support of local law enforcement and to Honor Detective Kristen Hearne. We are asking residents, if they can, to change your front porch light to blue and burn them all night Monday and Tuesday night. Let's turn Aragon and Polk County blue. We appreciate the show and signs of support. We would also like to thank the countless residents for the kind words and encouragement we have been shown over the last few days. Your kind words do make a difference.

Funeral Arrangements for Detective Kristen Hearne are as follows: Visitation will be Monday October 2nd, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church on GA Hwy 278 Funeral will be Tuesday October 3rd, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church The City of Aragon City Hall will be CLOSED Tuesday so the City Employees will be able to attend the funeral. Kristen husband and brother both work for the City of Aragon.
