The Newton Police Department reminds you to have a safe and happy Halloween. Beggar’s night is scheduled for Tuesday, October 31st from 6-8 p.m.

No-Shave November is a month-long journey during which police officers forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. Cancer is a horrible disease that does not discriminate. Please join us in raising awareness and funds for prevention, research and education.

Responsible Beverage Server Training Employee & Family Resources, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, and the Newton Police Department will be offering a Beverage Server Training to all Jasper County liquor license holders. This training will provide license holders with updates on Iowa alcohol laws and detail the best practices and regulations that affect alcohol sales. Beverage Server Trainings also serve as a platform to share your successes, barriers and concerns and learn from the experience of others in our community. Participants will receive completion certificates which may help establishments reduce their costs of dram shop and liability insurance. This FREE opportunity will help employers and employees learn: • helpful hints for checking identification • how to identify valid and counterfeit IDs • how to pass compliance checks • responsibilities if a customer presents an invalid ID • how to handle customers who have “had too much to drink” • how to avoid over-serving patrons There is no charge for the program, but registration is required. Trick-or-treaters are reminded to follow Halloween Safety tips: • Stay in well-lighted areas • Never go out alone • Have your parents check your treats • Wear a light-colored costume that makes it easy for you to walk and be seen • Choose costumes that are marked flame retardant • Carry a flashlight and use reflective tape on your costume so people driving cars can see you • Cross streets only at the corners. Never cross the street between parked cars. • Take off your mask before you cross a street or use makeup instead of a mask • Plan your route in advance with your parents

The Newton Police Department is distributing FREE Safety Pup trick-or-treat bags thru October 31st from 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM. The Police Department is located at 101 West Fourth Street South.

October 23-31 is Red Ribbon Week, which serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. We are excited for the Red Ribbon events scheduled for our schools this week.
