This morning these three young men got to ride to school in my patrol car, first we stopped by Casey’s for some chocolate milk and donuts (my favorite) and then off to the last day of school. Brody, Conner and Brue let me know that they had a great school year and had sooo many plans of just hanging out all summer long, the life of a kid 🤣😂.

As part of the Southeast Polk Elementary School auction - Officer Thomas auctioned off a concealed carry package for 4 adults including the classroom portion for an Iowa Concealed Carry Permit plus range time & ammo. We are happy to help support our community in any way possible and demonstrate responsible training such as this.

A little humor with a very strong message. Please don’t text and drive!

**UPDATE** Crews have cleared from the scene. Fire crews are at the intersection of Mill and Elm on a structure fire. Please avoid the area. Please understand that your water may have some fluctuated pressure and discoloration due to the use of a fire hydrant.

For those of you who know what this picture is, then no words are needed. From the Mitchellville Police Department, we remember and honor those service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving our great country. May you all have a good Memorial Day and never forget.

We will be out here supporting the Little League. Come out and see how fast you can pitch.

We have received a complaint about parking on Jasper Ave NE. The complaint was in regards to parking in the driveway to the city-owned building. Please do not block the entryway into the parking lot of this building. Please share and understand that a citation may be issued if this request is not followed. Please be aware that parking is not allowed on Jasper Avenue, both sides of the roadway.

Please have a safe Memorial Day weekend

This morning I got to enjoy a great breakfast with this little princess along with other dads and kids at Discovery Time Preschool. We both had a donut and some chocolate milk (my favorite). Later that day I received gifts from some more kids that attend Discovery Time Preschool to show support for the work we do and our commitment to the kids and the community. Now from the Chief's point of view, I could not be more proud of my staff for the amazing amount of work they do for the citizens and for the amazing relationship we have with the kids and adults living here. You truly make me proud to be your chief! Thank you to the staff and kids at Discovery Time Preschool! You truly made my day, week and weekend!

Ladies and gentlemen, we know it’s Friday!! We know it’s amazing outside and we want the weekend to get here a lot faster. We also understand that life gets in the way and that you may be running behind trying to get somewhere. However, traveling 81 miles per hour in a 55 zone is not the best idea. Traveling at that speed greatly increases the chances of a severe accident! #slowdown

Officer Kinmonth, along with his class members from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and Officer Tufts (Altoona PD) participated in the Iowa Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics today. Participating and supporting the Special Olympics of Iowa has been a big passion for members of this Department. 🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🚔🚔🚨

May 13 - May 19 is National Police Week Thank you to all our Officers who serve and protect us everyday! We appreciate you more than words can express!

Great article about mental health and Law Enforcement. These deputies do an amazing job!

Ladies and gentlemen. Seems the weather will be getting worse. Please continue to monitor the weather and take appropriate actions if the time comes. Attached is a link for the National Weather Service.

Good clip about the fire from yesterday. Please use caution when you burn. And if you’re a smoker, please do not throw your cigarette butts out the window.

It’s a Friday night, it’s beautiful out and it’s Drake Relays weekend. A lot of activities are going on. Please watch your speeds, don’t text and drive and don’t drink and drive. That way we don’t have to meet on “bad” terms such as this driver who was clocked going 80 in a 55 zone. Have a great weekend.

**ROADWAY IS OPEN**. NE 62nd Ave is open

Update. NE 96th ST is open for traffic. NE 62nd Ave still remains closed while crews finish up with the field fire.
