With the warm weather upon us, more motorcycles will be on the road. Both motorists and motorcyclist need to maintain their awareness. Safe riding practices and cooperation from all road users will help reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our Nation’s highways. It’s especially important for motorists to understand the safety challenges faced by motorcyclists, such as size and visibility, and motorcycle riding practices like downshifting and weaving to know how to anticipate and respond to them. By raising motorists’ awareness, both drivers and riders will be safer sharing the road.

The Urbandale Police Department would like to send a huge thank you to Walnut Hills Elementary School. They agreed to help us out with our new program, “Read with Cops”! Officers will visit the Kindergarten classrooms reading some of their favorite books to the children. After reading and discussing the book, each child gets to take home a copy of the story to share with their family. 📚+🚔=😁 This program would not be possible if it were not for the generous donation of books from Scholastic Book Fairs.

FYI: We have assisted residents who have received phone calls like this one. If you receive one of these calls please DO NOT send any money and contact local law enforcement. You can also protect yourself further by making sure all of your family's social media accounts are set to the highest privacy settings and informing them of this scam. Urbandale, Iowa
