Last month we were invited by our local Dysart Lions Club to join them for supper. We had a great time with some wonderful folks. Always nice to see familiar faces, and to meet new ones. Thanks to these young fellas for the nice piece of hardware. #LionsClub #Dysart #Trophy

It’s law enforcement appreciation day. We would like to give a shout out to ALL law enforcement officials across the country. Your services are greatly appreciated. The link below is a short article about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Known as “Big Ben, he is a huge supporter of law enforcement and donates thousands of dollars yearly to law enforcement agencies across the country. He even has his own K-9 foundation, which provides departments newly trained K-9’s. Also providing assistance to departments in need, or facing financial hardships. Doing big things on and off the field! #LawEnforcementAppreciation #GivingBack #BigBen

*Business of the Month* Meet Wanda Petersen, owner of Sassy's Boutique, one of our Main Street shops. Wanda has owned Sassy's since 2008 marking their 10 year anniversary this year! Wanda has lived in Dysart since 1975 with the exception of 9 years that she, her husband Dave and their 3 children lived in Reinbeck. They moved back to Dysart in 1991 where they quickly became involved in the community. Their son Cale, his wife Courtney and their 3 children, Hailey, Taryn and Grady and son Reece, his wife Melissa and children Jailyn and Piper live in Dysart, while their daughter Paige, husband Jamie and daughter Hattie live in Urbandale. Wanda's true joy in life besides her boutique of course is her family! Sassy's has one employee, Joanne Ternus, who has been with the boutique since the beginning. Joanne usually works on Wednesday's so that Wanda can have the day off to be with her grandchildren, which they affectionately call "Grandma Day" Wanda says that Joanne is the best employee a store owner could ever have! Wanda has loved fashion since being a little girl. Her mother was a seamstress and although Wanda never enjoyed sewing, she did enjoy learning the different fabrics and how her mom coordinated outfits etc. Owning a boutique where she could help women feel great about what they wear, show them different options for dressing and building relationships with her customers was a goal for her. Wanda enjoys the challenges of owning your own business. The biggest challenge right now is trying to keep ahead of the changes in retail with so much online shopping and attracting new customers to come to Dysart and shop Sassy's and the rest of Dysart's cute little shops. The best piece of advice Wanda can give in owning your own business is you have to BELIEVE and be PASSIONATE about what you do. Working closely with her fellow Main Street shop owners is also important. The shop owners get together once a month for a Business Builders meeting to discuss Main Street events, and other ways to attract business. Wanda really enjoys volunteering in the community. She currently sits on the Dysart Development Board and is president of the Little Knights Learning Center board. You have undoubtedly seen her helping Club Dysart during their annual 4th of July celebration too. Sassy's Boutique is located at 321 Main Street. Their ours are M-F 10am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm. #BusinessOfTheMonth #Dysart #CommunityPolicing

These sweet ladies dropped some goodies off to the office. They even brought some K-9 fuel for Charlie. Sophia and Heather Hall sure know how to make new friends:). The treats were delicious, thanks ladies! #PoliceFuel #HolidaySpirit #NewFriends

Long post with quite a few pictures, but worth the read and look:). Our first ever Shop with a Cop event was a success. We have so many people to thank for helping us make this happen. But most importantly, we are thankful for being given the opportunity to make seven wonderful kiddos Christmas just a little more special. We had a great time with our kiddos and it was very rewarding to make a direct impact on each of their lives. So we thank our kiddos for giving us the opportunity to serve them with compassion. Officers from the Dysart Police Department, Tama County Sheriff’s Department, and staff from the Union Community School District all came out to support this great event. Deputies Casey Schmidt and Brian Randall teamed up with us and joined in on the fun. We are very fortunate to have a great working relationship with the Tama County Sheriff’s Department and their Deputies. Team work between county wide agencies is crucial. Being able to come together for a great cause and difference maker, shows the investment law enforcement officials county wide are taking. Thanks again for all of your help Tama County Sheriff's Office. We had several students from the Union Community School District come out and volunteer their time to spend with these kiddos. Jacob Murphy (10th grade), Veronica Thompson (10th grade), and Beau Moody (8th grade), all participated in our first Shop with a Cop. These students went above and beyond and took the initiative to make a difference in their communities. In our eyes, these students (helpers or not), are the face and future of the wonderful community of Dysart. Thanks for WANTING to make a difference! Brenda Gardner, who works at Dysart-Geneseo Elementary, was the backbone of this whole operation. This could not have been done without her. She helped us round up the students, make contact with parents, and put everything into place. She even volunteered her entire evening and participated with us as well. Driving her own personal vehicle to Waterloo and transporting our students. She was fabulous, and we are so very thankful for all of her hard work. The community is more than blessed to have an employee who deeply cares about each and every student. Thank you Brenda!! We ended our evening at LB’S Pizza. LB’S provided our students, officers, and helpers with a delicious meal of pizza and other goodies. When we reached out to LB’S in reference to this event, Kirk and Bickkam were more than happy to assist in the making of this program. Offering to contribute in any way possible, these two made our night very special. We thank you for everything you guys do for our youth, community, and police department. You guys rock! LB's Pizza. As you know, Walmart awarded us a $1,000.00 grant and Sam’s Club an additional $750.00. We CANNOT thank both of you for your very generous donations. Without them this program would not have been possible. These two contribute thousands of dollars each year to various agencies, companies, programs etc. In efforts to make a difference in thousands of communities nationwide. We are so very blessed we were chosen for each grant. Thank you from the Dysart Police Department and from everyone who participated in our first ever Shop with a Cop. Until next year! Sam's Club Walmart Waterloo - Flammang Dr KWWL Check out KWWL online, as they covered our Shop with a Cop program!

Initially we were awarded a $1,000.00 grant from Sam's Club for our Shop with a Cop event. A few evenings ago, we received a phone call from Walmart Waterloo - Flammang Dr, in reference to a second grant we recently applied for. We have been awarded an additional $750.00 grant to make our event even that much better! It’s going to be a great time and our kiddos are going to have a blast! #ShopWithACop #Youth #CommunityPolicing

Sorry for the re-post, but had to make some changes to the picture:). We are pleased to announce we have been selected by Sam's Club to receive a $1,000 grant for “Shop with a Cop”. It took several attempts to apply for funding to make this happen, but we finally secured an opportunity. Shop with a Cop, is a program where numerous law enforcement agencies across the country participate in each year. It’s geared towards building positive relationships and rapport with our youth, and making their Christmas just a little more enjoyable. Several random students will be selected from our Union Community School District. We will do our best to select children between the Elementary and Middle School levels. To our knowledge, this is the first time any agency in Tama County has ever participated in this program. Our students will get to spend a day with our local law enforcement officials, and shop for various gifts. Each student will receive over $220.00 to spend on whatever items they please. Our tentative date for this to take place is Tuesday, December 19th, 2017. Our kiddos will get to end their day by receiving a meal with their law enforcement buddies at our local LB's Pizza establishment, thanks LB’S!!! Special thanks to Sam’s Club of Waterloo, Iowa Casey’s General Store, and LB’S Pizza for their sincere generosity. If you or anyone else would like to donate for our upcoming program or for the future, please contact us via Facebook or by stopping at the Police Department. We also welcome any members of the public to come out and help celebrate this program with our kiddos and law enforcement officials. Thanks to everyone for their help and we look forward to our first ever Shop with a Cop! #CommunityPolicing #ShopWithACop #SeasonToGive #Dysart

Recently boys middle school basketball has started up at Union Middle School. We received the opportunity to help coach and mentor the 7th and 8th grade squads. Which is another great opportunity for us to interact with our youth and build relationships. This gives us a chance to interact with our youth in a different capacity, as opposed to being in a uniform. With that being said, we are also very thankful for these two gentlemen below. Beau and Riley are volunteering their time to serve as managers. They could be spending their time elsewhere, but their teammates/classmates come first to them. Very blessed to have these two with us each and every day. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to the program! #Basketball #UnionKnights #CopsCanHoop #HaircutForBeau
