Yesterday at the Village Board meeting the Niles Police Department added two new officers and promoted another to the rank of Sergeant. Officer Michael Dati and Officer Roy Brines were appointed by Fire and Police Commissioner Barry Mueller as they are read their Oath of Office. In addition, Officer Timothy Naleway was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Officer Dati and Officer Brines are currently at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and will graduate on July 7th, 2018.

These events recognize the service and sacrifice of those Peace Officers who have lost their lives or have been disabled in the performance of their duties. The Niles Police Department knows first-hand how quickly tragedy can strike as Niles Police Officer Steven Zourkas died in a motor vehicle accident on April 8, 2005. The Niles Police Department will be honoring fallen police officers on May 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the waterfall located at Touhy and Milwaukee Avenue.

Officers Orlando and Officer Regal graduated from Honor Guard Boot Camp today.

The Niles Police Department will be honoring fallen police officers on May 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the waterfall located at Touhy and Milwaukee Avenue. To honor these officers and their sacrifice, Mayor Andrew Przybylo will read a proclamation commemorating National Peace Officers Memorial Day. In addition, members of the Niles Police Department Honor Guard will be present for the ceremony along with other community leaders and members of local law enforcement. Niles Public Services dyed the waterfall blue to honor Peace Officers everywhere.

For the Distracted Driver Awareness Month a state wide initiative the department conducted a efforts to reduce distracted driving through a combination of enforcement and education. Today Commander Fragassi was Interviewed by a 6th grade Nelson School Student Aisha Ansari she is working on a Genius Hour Project about evidence and forensic science. Commander Fragassi is our departments Evidence Technician Coordinator and he walked Aisha through the ET processing room.
