"It's beginning to look a lot like ....." the holidays in Orland Park. Preparations are underway as the Village Center south of the village hall is transformed into a winter wonderland. This year brings an expanded Holiday Festival on Sunday, November 26th as well as the Orland Park Lions Club's Christmas Tree sales at the Village Center. Everyone is invited to officially welcome the season on Sunday, Nov 26th at 4:30 p.m. when the elected officials light the village's tree and displays.

#OrlandPark Public Works Dept. has notified residents in the Fernway Subdivision of two water main shutdowns scheduled for tomorrow, Nov. 7. The first shutdown will be from 9 AM - noon at Poplar and Fairway, the second from 11 AM - 2 PM at Poplar and Golfview.

The village's Veterans Commission observes Veterans Day on Friday, November 10 with an Illinois National Guard helicopter landing at the John Humphrey Sports Complex, 14700 West Avenue. The static air display, namely the helicopter on the ground, will begin with the 9:30 a.m. landing. A MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) type tent and vintage military vehicles will be positioned along the field #4 foul line beyond the fence at Humphrey. The helicopter will be open to the public from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The best area to view the landing will be from the rise on the west side of the Humphrey Complex West Avenue parking lot and right field of field #1. The village’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the veterans memorial outside of the village hall at 14700 South Ravinia Avenue. It is during the ceremony that the newly added veterans’ names are announced as the veteran or family and friends stand as the audience applauds. Orland Park’s ceremony includes honoring and recognizing the French government and its people to thank them for their support in hosting the Paris Peace Accords and helping to end the Vietnam War. French Deputy Consul General Frederic Chloe will be the village’s guest with the ceremony including both the national anthems for the United States and France. The Village of Orland Park joins the nation in mourning the 26 lives lost in Sutherland Springs, Texas. As a mark of respect for the victims of this senseless act of violence perpetrated on November 5, 2017, the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff until sunset, November 9, 2017.

The village's Veterans Commission hosted its 18th Annual Veterans Steak Fry on Sunday, November 5th. All Orland Park veterans and those who are members of Orland Park veteans' groups are invited to attend each year.

Buca Di Beppo was recognized for its dedicated service and contributions to promote regional tourism and hospitality industries, including sponsoring the 2017 US Log Rolling Open and the United States Hockey League in Orland Park.

Mayor Keith Pekau joined Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce and Simon Mall representatives at Orland Square's S.T.E.A.M. children's play area ribbon cutting on Nov. 3. The 1,800 square-foot interactive play area features science, technology, engineering, arts, and music- themed activity centers. S.T.E.A.M. play area will open to the public on Saturday, Nov. 4, and is located on the lower level of the mall, outside JCPenney.
