Richton Park Police Department News

DO NOT BE ALARMED... after intense investigation it has been determined that the large glowing object in the sky is in fact the Sun. We hope it sticks around for awhile and puts us on the track to spring before it’s summer.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Mother Nature please let us know, we would like to have a chat with her. Thank you.

This week is national telecommunicators week, the first week of April is set aside to recognize the hard working men and women who are rarely seen but are the most important link between the citizens we serve and the first responders. They answer your calls, provide life saving pre arrival instructions and are the life line to the police officers and firefighters on the other end of the radio. It’s not only one a week a year they should be recognized but every single day of the year. We are fortunate enough to have our dispatch services provided by Southcom dispatch center. On behalf of the men and women of the Richton Park police department we thank you, not just today but everyday!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Scott’s law is designed to save lives, luckily this trooper was not severely injured. Move over and slow down, lives depend on it.

For immediate release: This morning at approximately 3:05am the Richton Park police department responded to a residence on Millard Ave for report of a burglary in progress, upon arrival it was determined the offender had fled the scene but evidence collected at the scene, which included colorful eggs, chocolate candy, a large basket and jelly beans pointed to the suspect pictured below. The offender was located a short distance away attempting to gain entry to another residence. The offender was taken into custody and charged accordingly. As a side note April fools and happy Easter!

Good luck Ramblers, welcome to the big dance....bring it home to Chicago.....

Today we remember....

Way to go Commander Sweitzer.... thank you for your dedication.

In illinois we have Scott’s law, basically it reads if you approach an emergency vehicle, road construction or maintenance vehicle or tow truck operating with its emergency lights activated you must move to the farthest away lane of same direction traffic and slow down or if only one lane of traffic you must slow down and pass with caution. The attached video shows exactly why this law is in place.

Missing person from Park Forest.

Two years ago today in the early morning hours Park Forest police officer Tim Jones responded to anything but a normal everyday call, on that morning he was shot three times in the head and against all odds survived. Officer Jones is in our thoughts and prayers everyday as he fights his daily battle to get better. The other night on channel 9 news he in his own words proclaimed he is a miracle of god, and we must agree because he truly is. On this day the Village of Park Forest has proclaimed March 19th as Officer Tim Jones day. Today the patrol shift, detectives, records and administration have put on their Timstrong shirts to let Tim know that he is thought about everyday and we stand beside him on his road to recovery. #timstrong #miracleofgod #unitedwestand

Tomorrow while your chasing the leprechaun for his pot o’ gold, or enjoying some corned beef and cabbage with your favorite adult beverage we ask that you please don’t drink and drive. Not only can the results be deadly but you’ll need that pot o’ gold to cover your legal expenses. It’s just not worth it, designate a driver and enjoy the day.

Richton Park goes Hollywood, this morning our corporate partner Federal Signal corporation used our community center as the back drop for a photo shoot and commercial highlighting some of their new products. Always a pleasure working with our local businesses.

Remember tonight when you change your clocks change your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries. This simple act may just save a life.
