Peace Officers Memorial Day President John F. Kennedy declared the first Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, 1962, as a tribute to peace officers and in honor of peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, lost their lives or became disabled in the line of duty. This day has been observed in our country annually ever since. On this day, and every day, it is fitting to honor those peace officers who gave their lives to protect ours, and to thank the law enforcement officers who serve for their dedication and service to our communities. In accordance with Flag Code section 7(m), the United States flag is to be displayed at half-staff for the entire day in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, Tuesday, May 15, 2018. By a joint resolution approved October 1, 1962, as amended (76 Stat. 676), and by Public Law 103-322, as amended (36 U.S.C. 136-137), the President has been authorized and requested to designate May 15 of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and the week in which it falls as "Police Week."

**RX BOX*** The Villa Park Police Department has teamed up with the DuPage County Health Department to offer residents a safe and easy way to drop off unwanted medications. The drop box is located in the lobby of the Villa Park Police Department at 40 S. Ardmore which is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The program is for unused prescriptions and expired medicines generated by residents. Disposing of prescription and over-the-counter drugs down a drain can contaminate public water supplies and waterways. Removing expired and unused drugs from our homes reduces accidental ingestion by children and reduces teen prescription drug abuse. Items Accepted • Prescription Medications • Over-the-Counter Medications • Medicated Ointments • Medicated Shampoos • Liquids Containing Medications • Prescription and Over-the-Counter Inhalers Items Not Accepted • Sharps or Needles • Radioactive Medicines • Medical Waste • Household Chemical Waste No commercial or institutional waste will be accepted. Please remove medications from original containers and put in a plastic bag before dropping them off at the police department. Any personal information should be blacked out.
