INFORMATION REQUESTED Wilmington Police Department is investigating a theft that occurred from "Pickers Splendor" on S. Water St. at approximately 12:55 pm today. A male white suspect, approximately 5'5", medium build, dark un-kept hair and appearance, wearing a tan jacket and multi-colored sweater came into the store and carried out an antique mantle-type clock (see photo) without paying for it. If you have any information, please contact Detective Karl Jurgens at 815-476-3121, ext 307. Thank you!

BEWARE OF IMPOSTERS AND SCAMS! Don't Get Scammed; this just happened to one of our Wilmington business owners (and we're happy to say that he didn't fall for it!) From the ComEd website: ComEd has seen an increase in reports of individuals calling ComEd customers and falsely claiming their electric service will be disconnected unless payment is made. These impersonators instruct customers to buy a prepaid credit card and call back to a different phone number with the personal identification number (PIN) or other personal information. They also use a tactic called “spoofing” to manipulate the Caller ID displayed phone number so that it appears as a ComEd number. Remember ComEd representatives will never call you to ask you for cash or request that you purchase a prepaid credit card to make a payment on your bill. If you have concerns about the status of your account, call ComEd’s Customer Service line at 1-800-334-7661(1-800-EDISON1). Report Phone Scams If you believe you have been the target of a phone scam, ComEd urges you to contact the Illinois Attorney General’s office at 1-800-386-5438 (TTY 1-800-964-3013), or visit the Illinois Attorney General's website and select the “Protecting Consumers” link.

Kahler Road has been closed due to high water; please seek alternate routes. Rain is expected to continue so we expect more flooding issues throughout the day.

Thank you for your service...

Rest In Peace LIeutenant Kozik.

Please be careful!

PROTECTED! Thank you Cathy Stein! Wilmington Police Department’s K9 Mao now has his body armor! K9 Mao received his bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Mao’s vest is sponsored by Cathy Stein of Lincolnwood, IL and is embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Cathy Stein”. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 2,700 protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over 2.1 million dollars. The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate. The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.00. Each vest has a value between $1,744 – $2,283 and a five-year warranty, and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. There is an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call 508-824-6978. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provides information, lists events, and accepts tax-deductible donations of any denomination at www.vik9s.org or mailed to P.O. Box 9 East Taunton, MA 02718.
