On February 16, 2018, at approximately 9:40 AM, Vigo County Central Dispatch dispatched West Terre Haute Police Officers to a complaint at the West Terre Haute Police headquarters located at 500 W National AV, West Terre Haute. Upon arrival officers received a report of domestic battery that had occured the night before February 15, 2018, at an address on Lee Ave. in West Terre Haute. After speaking to the victim it was discovered that the suspect Cody W Morris, 27 year old male from West Terre Haute, became angry after an argument and took the female victim's phone. While arguing with Morris, Morris made threats of physical violence and then retrieved two handguns and according to the victim, put one of the weapons against her forehead and made threats to shoot her and her two children. Morris refused to let the victim leave the residence. As the victim retrieved her juvenile children, Morris smashed the victim’s cell phone with a hammer and broke the house phone, rendering it useless. The victim once again asked to leave the house with the children and was physically prevented from doing so multiple times. After several attempts to leave, Morris finally agreed to let the victim and juveniles to do so. Morris, however, shut the power off to the residence and left the victims in the dark. West Terre Haute Police Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Morris Friday afternoon. Morris was taken into police custody at a address in Terre Haute and booked into the Vigo County Jail with bond set at $50,000 cash only. Cody W Morris was charged with Domestic Battery Committed In The Presence Of A Child Less than 16 Years Old, Domestic Battery by means of a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Confinement Where The Victim Is Under 14 Years Of Age, Criminal Confinement While Armed With A Deadly Weapon, Interference With The Reporting Of A Crime, and Intimidation With A Deadly Weapon.
