Perri Prebble was served a criminal summons for the violation. 10/03/2017 A Battery, Domestic Violence and Aggravated Kidnapping Report was taken in the 400 block of Old Manor Road. Kurt Doll was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked and confined in lieu of bond. 10/05/2017 David Roach was arrested in the 500 block of South Main Street on a Barton County Warrant. Roach was transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked and confined in lieu of bond. A Theft by Shoplifting Report was taken in the 500 block of East Santa Fe Boulevard. The Ellinwood Police Department is currently taking applications for two part-time Police Officer positions. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Applicants must be free of any domestic violence convictions, serious Misdemeanors or Felony convictions. The applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED. The applicant must have a valid Kansas driver's license. Applicants need to be able to work at least 24 hours a month. Starting pay is $13.00 hourly. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the City of Ellinwood Office, 104 East Second, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. On October 3, 2017 at approximately 1145 hours, the Ellinwood Police Department responded to the 400 block of Old Manor Road for a Domestic Battery Report. The victim reported being battered and kidnapped by her boyfriend. The suspect was later pursued by law enforcement and subsequently arrested in the 400 block of North East 30 Road. Kurt Doll was arrested by the Barton County Sheriff's Office personnel and transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked and confined on the charges of Aggravated Battery and Kidnapping. The Barton County Sheriffs Office has charges filed on Doll as a result of the vehicle pursuit.

The suspect, Kurt Doll, fled the scene prior to Law Enforcement’s arrival. A criminal summons was issued to Doll. 08/03/2017 A Driving While Revoked Report was taken in the 500 block of West Seventh Street. Linda Fernandez was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail, where she was booked and confined in lieu of bond. 08/05/2017 A Theft by Shoplifting Report was taken in the 500 block of East Santa Fe Boulevard. The suspect, Douglas Meredith III, left the scene prior to Law Enforcement’s arrival. A criminal summons was issued for the violation to Meredith. On September 12th, 2017, at approximately 1100 hours, a fatality accident occurred in the 400 block of East E Street, Ellinwood, Barton County, Kansas. A 79 year old male was struck while riding his bicycle. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

On August 30th, 2017, the Ellinwood Police Department assisted the Barton County Sheriffs Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol in arresting Michael Abbott, white male, 48 years of age. The arrest was made in the 500 block of South Bismark Avenue after a short foot pursuit. Abbott had an active warrant for his arrest out of the State of Colorado for escaping custody. Abbott had been previously pursued in the Geneseo, Kansas area by Rice County Authorities on August 27th, 2017. Abbott was transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked and confined on the Colorado Warrant as well as additional narcotics charges and Resisting Arrest charges when arrested. Rice County has charges pending on Abbott due to the August 27th incident.

Well, it’s that time of year again and the Annual After Harvest Festival is upon us. I hope everyone who chooses to attend the festival has a very enjoyable time and takes in every event made available to them. With that said, I believe it necessary to remind everyone who attends the After Harvest Festival to be aware that there will also be an increase in law enforcement during this time. There will be saturation patrols by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Barton County Sheriff. So please don’t drink and drive. Have a designated driver so everyone can enjoy the Festival and arrive at their destinations safely at the end of the day. Have fun, but not at the expense of others and as always be safe.

A reminder all, just in case you were wondering or were unaware. The City of Ellinwood is only allowing fireworks to be shot off in the City of Ellinwood on July 4th. There will be a fireworks display on July 3rd, but no one else will be allowed to shoot off any fireworks. Please be considerate of others and be safe. Have a great Independence Day.

On Saturday, June 24th 2017, the Ellinwood Police Department executed a search warrant on the residence located at 214 West First Street, Ellinwood, Kanas. As a result of the search warrant, Eugene Merica was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked and confined on felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The Barton County Sheriffs Office assisted in the service of the warrant.

On or around May 30th, 2017 unknown persons removed a sign and barricade, which was stationed in the 600 block of North Main Street. This sign is property of the City of Ellinwood and no one had permission to remove the sign and barricade. The sign was a cautionary sign, which read, "Road Closed to Through Truck Traffic". If anyone knows the where about of this property, please contact the police department, at 620-564-3001, or messenger the Department with your information.

The City of Ellinwood is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Duties include enforcing all State and Federal Laws, enforcing traffic laws, responding to disturbances, conducting criminal and accident investigations. Rotating 12-hour shift work including nights, weekends and holidays is required. Applicants must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age with no felony, domestic violence, or serious misdemeanor convictions and have a valid Kansas driver's license, and a high school diploma or GED. KLETC Certification preferred, but not required. Salary is dependent upon qualifications.
