The Sedan Police Department would like to recognize those who dedicate their lives as the savior on the phone in our darkest hours. They are truly the unsung heroes holding it all together. Join us in thanking our 911 dispatchers during the "National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week", April 8-14th.

If you feel you may be a victim of a scam, ripoff or identity theft, we strongly encourage you to report it and to visit www.ftc.gov. Many times these types of crimes go unreported because victims are uncomfortable admitting they've been taken advantage of. They prey heavily on the elderly in our area and even if they're not successful, it should be reported. There are resources available on the Federal Trade Commission's website to start the road to recovery and to bring those responsible to justice. Let's hit'em where it hurts, their wallets.

Tonight at 6:30 at the senior center. Great information and entertaining.

The Sedan Police Department is advising all Sedan residents to ensure your homes, buildings and vehicles are secure. There has been a rash of burglaries and thefts over the last two weeks that have yet to be solved. We are working in conjunction with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department to bring an end to this crime spree so please stay vigilant. And as always, if you see something suspicious, please report it to dispatch at 725-3108 or 911 if an emergency.

Well dang.

Sgt Kirk Richardson and Undersheriff Nick Reed have just returned from a week of training with the FBI on child abductions. The Federal agency established CARD, (Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Teams), back in 2006 with numerous successful deployments. Time is of the essence in a child abduction case with every passing moment lessening the likelihood of a successful outcome. Recently, the FBI recognized the value in providing the same training to select members of local and state law enforcement personnel and developed JCARD. During the past week, Joint Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Teams were established and trained in El Dorado, KS. With members spread across the state, response times are greatly reduced, adding precious time to the clock. With the ability of JCARD teams to quickly respond, implement specialized investigations and activate additional FBI CARD team members, technical specialists and behavioral analysis experts, the odds of recovering an abducted child are drastically increased. The concept behind JCARD is for members to rapidly assist other agencies in an assigned region. Many times with these types of cases, there is very little to go on, so having hundreds of highly trained investigators able to quickly respond at no cost to taxpayers is a huge asset. See attached video.

The Sedan Police Department would like to recognize and honor Chief Douglas Schroeder of the Hesston, KS Police Department. Chief Schroeder was awarded the Medal of Valor yesterday for his actions and bravery on February 26, 2016 in service of his community. The award, presented by President Donald Trump, is the highest decoration for bravery exhibited by public safety officers in the United States.
